Previous to working as a home child care provider, I have worked as a Paediatric Nurse and Intensive Care Nurse for 10 years.
My home is a caring environment with nutritious meals and a fun learning atmosphere. Themes and activities are geared to each child's ages and abilities.
Some of our regular activities include:
-arts and crafts
-colouring & drawing
-letter & number tracing .
-early literacy activities & games
-music
-games
-stories
-educational activities
-fort building
-costume play
-nature walks
-scavenger hunts
-field trips
-baking
-homemade play-dough
-water play
-plenty of outdoor time.
My home is on a quiet side street surrounded by a beautiful nature trail , with a fenced backyard. A close walk to nature trails. Our neighbourhood is accessible to both the 401 and expressway on ramps less than 10 minutes.
I attend regular educational workshops and conferences throughout the year, held on evenings or weekends to keep my skills up to date. I also like to attend web seminars pertaining to my field for educational updates.
When we go on our adventures, we often take our camera along and email our captured moments to mom and dad, so they can enjoy seeing their children at play. The children like to use some of these photos at the end of the day to help tell all about the adventure they had. Privacy is important to us, and pictures are only taken/posted with parental permission.
I also have a childcare blog that I use to keep my clients up to date on our themes, and daily activities. My clients have told me how much they appreciated this extra feature, especially when they are first returning to work after a mat leave. It's easier for them to go through the transition when they can get regular updates of their child's activities. I like to ensure a smooth transition back to work for both parents and child.
I have references from both past and current clients available to share. I don't 'lose' clients - they graduate, move away, or take mat leave; we usually have a going away party for our parting clients and leave on very good terms. We do enjoy having reunion visits in the summer with some of my former graduates - it's nice to see how much the children have grown over the years. Some of my references are posted on my childcare website, http://www.doonhomechildcare.com
I have also offered my services as a substitute child care provider, for when other providers are ill or on vacation. We have made a very good network with quality caregivers in nearby neighbourhoods, and have arranged for a great back up system with each other. If one of us were to become ill or need a day off, clients have options for 'Plan B' alternate care to cover the absence with another caregiver who they are familiar with from our play dates at the park, etc. This is something my clients appreciate, and has proven to be very useful.
Looking forward to meeting you!
Admission conditions
We have 2 very friendly cats who love our daycare kids but tend to hide out during the day!
Our daycare also has a very loving small dog who adores people and kids especially.
I do take kids part time but do require a minimum of 3 days/week committment.
If you visited or if you're using a childcare provider found on DaycareBear, do not hesitate to leave a review. This will most certainly help other parents!
Updates
We expect providers to keep their listing and available openings up-to-date. However, to prevent oversights, openings expire after 45 days.
