Hi,

I live outside of Vancouver, and I am having trouble finding child care in the evenings (other than babysitters). Does anyone know why evening child care doesn't exist?

Thanks!

Most day homes have 10-12 hour day's already, and so..evening care would be sooo tiring. I have yet to really see a big demand for care in the evenings where I live, and I am not ventursome enough to do it.

I agree that most home childcare providers already working a very long day with the demand for day time being as early as 6 am and late as 6 pm ...working too long a day without a break leads to burnout.

As well as well as most clients needing evening care want it in their own home so that children can do their bedtime routine and so forth and home Childcare providers want to be home with their own families too

Pretty much the majority of care you will find for evenings is a student babysitter - check with the local colleges/university if you want someone in a childcare related course of study. Since your child would have had all day with you or in a program to do the academic/social part of learning the evening in their own home with a babysitter I would think is what you really want anyways in the sense of giving your child downtime while still getting a bit of playtime and a bedtime story etc.

Most home daycare providers have their own children and take the opportunity in the evenings to participate with them in activities such as sports, dance, brownies, etc. or to have some alone time with their children. Not to mention time to prepare for the next workday that is already a 10-12 hour day.

I think something you need to ask yourself is why you need a childcare provider instead of a babysitter when the work that needs to be done does not require any kind of special training or teaching - supper, bath, snack, bed with a bit of playtime between. Your child deserves downtime from their busy day too to just be themselves and unwind.

It does exist but you would need to bring someone into your own home. Most day homes are just that "DAY" homes. Very seldom do you find people who do over night care. Have you considered a college/university student or an empty nester to come into your home?
