I have an almost 2 year old who used to nap like a champ! But the last few days he's been chatting to himself for over an hour. If I go up and quietly tell him it's quiet time and no talking, he just goes right back to it when I leave the room. Any tips or advise? He's starting to disrupt the other nappers.

I'd like to hear too what others have to say as I've had this problem the past week too! I had to move the little one into another room away from everyone else

Well, I have 3 rooms for 4 kids, so I divide them up based on who is the best/worst nappers. My chatters earn a room to themselves. Although it doesn't mean that they're allowed to. I still go and remind them...sometimes it takes a sterner voice to get it! It passes...

My only suggestion is to move him to another room where he won't disrupt others. My 22 month old daughter often talks to herself for quite awhile before going to sleep, but she's happy enough and it doesn't disrupt anybody because she's in her own room. I have another just turned 2 year old who talks for about an hour and she shares the playroom with another child, but he sleep slike a champ...we can actually all go into the playroom where he is sleeping, turn on the lights and start playing noisily all around him and he will keep sleeping! He is 2 1/2 and boy do I wish they would all sleep like that :)

I am having that problem today, I took away her water and blanket after 2 warnings...she didn't like me, but now nothing is coming from the room, don't worry girls I'll give it back to her after I know she is asleep :)

Hmmm - tough one I generally do not mind 'whispering' to themselves cause I play quiet time music in the house that drowns others out.

Other than either moving him to somewhere no one will 'hear' him I would go with the continual message of 'shhhh time for mouths to rest' until he 'gets it'?

I'm in the room with my little ones until they fall asleep so I can keep shushing or laying them down and covering them until they finally drift off. They can see me so can't act up or be silly. It works great. I'm not sure what you should do though unless you can sit in the room and read a book until he gets over this phase.

Some times the simple things that make sense don`t come right to us....this is a great idea. I usually rush off after they are put down to start my mad dash of rush around to clean up. I`ll try this next week! I prefer to have them all in one place for nap time. Unless one is sick and needs to nap on their own.

I didn't admit that I sit on the computer and check my email and daycare provider's forum while I wait for them to fall asleep and sometimes I'm eating my lunch too, so hey, I'm still being productive, haha! I'm definitely not the kind of person who can sit and do nothing.

I also have the kids separated, and then have some sort of "neutral" noise going on. I find that turning on the bathroom fan in that hallway, then leaving the door to the bathroom open, helps them all sleep better!
We do what it takes, right? ;) Is it possible to separate him a little more?
For me, as long as they are not shrieking, and are still "resting" in the nap area, I am fine with them chittering away to themselves. My little part time guy tells himself stories. "And then Bxxxx see da dinosaur....Rawwwrrr r says the dinosaur". It's hilarious!

As long as it is quiet to themselves and others are still going to sleep which those that are really tired usually do I just ignore it. The good thing is they usually eventually fall asleep so are sound asleep as the others start to wake up so it is very quiet when it needs to be and the others will often drift back to sleep. Would rather that then they went to sleep and woke up and started talking and disturbed the others.
