After seeing some of the parent horror stories floating around here I feel so appreciative of the parents I do have. All but one set of parents are "golden" (I've stumbled across Judy's blog and have been obsessively reading haha), and even the set that aren't golden aren't pains in the ass, just not worthy of the title "golden".

This was brought home to me today as I wake up bleary eyed and cranky due to lack of sleep thinking I was going to have a crappy birthday. However my first parent of the day remembered it was my birthday and brought me an XL ice cap from Timmies. Amazing enough right? Well to top that off she produced from her child’s bag a gift. The Shades of Grey trilogy I have been dying to read. We had spoken about them a few days ago. Along with that was a funny card and.. an APOLOGY that she hadn't made me cupcakes like she planned but her husband who works out of town came home yesterday and she ran out of time. This is the same woman who watched MY child in her home until after midnight on Saturday (refusing pay) so my hubby and I could have an early date night for my birthday. I have known this woman less than a month; her child (a certified golden child) is new to my care. Yet she still goes out of her way to do something special for my birthday.

My other parents wished me a Happy Birthday and truthfully that was more than enough, but this gesture from a veritable stranger touched my heart. Now.... how do I resist reading "mommy porn" during nap time? It just feels so wrong to read that during the day .

Happy Birthday Toregone! It is great to be appreciated. A nice thank you email really makes my day and I had a dcMom who always brought me a Timmy's tea in the morning. I miss her.

Happy Birthday and AWESOME present - my 2nd and 3rd book of that trilogy just arrived today from Amazon - I am excited!

I agree that there are some horror stories that float around about how little people value the important service we provide that makes my toes curl - I too know that I am blessed to have all my clients value and respect and show appreciation for what I do - even the one I do vent about on occasion are awesome 'clients' - pay on time, bring tokens of appreciation, big bonus at Xmas and flowers on others .... I just struggle with the child's personality which cannot be 'helped' persay but the way the parents 'parent' that personality does not HELP and makes it worse which is frustrating to watch!

That's a wonderful story! And gives me hope after the day I've had with two overtired boys who spent the entire day at a theme park yesturday... and show up with a mom who says "sorry, they're probably a little tired" UGH! The littlest had a gift in his diaper for me too.

Happy Birthday, hold on to those parents. They sound wonderful.
