Bum Wiping!

Do you ever wipes your dcks bums after a poop?
If so, what age do you require they do this themselves?

As soon as they start 'training' they are encouraged to wipe their own bum here ... and than they can bend over rover and I will 'supervise' with the hand over hand direction to help direct them to any area needing more attention but my goal is to have them doing this on their own as soon as possible .... we work alone and well I just prefer not to be 'touching' that area of their body any longer than I have to for everyone's comfort level ;)

I was just thinking this myself earlier this morning. My older DCG is only 2.5 but has been trained for about a year now and she still needs someone to wipe her for either pee or poop. I don't have any issues doing it but am wondering when children should start on thier own. My own son has just poop trained in the past month or so and even though he's just about 3 I don't think he's quite ready to fly solo yet.

Ya they do not fly solo here until they show me they can wipe without using the whole roll ;)

OOOOh! Yuck! I do encourage a ton of independence, but I will usually wipe until they are just about ready for school, preschool or kindergarten. (where they need to do it on their own) I dont like the thought of poop on stuff or in my home. They know when they have to poop, they need to inform me, they go by themselves and yell "I'm done!" when they need a wipe. Besides that, if I let them wipe alone, ewe! poop on the seat, their hand, and half a role in the toilet. No thanks. not to mention, when they are little they dont wipe well, who would want a sore butt?
I also use wipes and throw in trash, that way I know they get wiped well. :)

I have a 4 year old girl who wipes herself but she always poops little hard nuggets and has only once had to change her underwear due to insufficient wiping this year. Thankfully, my 4 year old boy is a night time pooper. It's much more preferable to the 3 1/2 year old girl who went off to JK last Sept. still pooping in her pullups. That was HORRIBLE!

I did buy those flushable wipes and they are in my bathroom in case I ever have a child who can use those while they learn. I think they are a great idea.

My daughter went to JK with me always double checking her bum after she wiped ~ which might have given her the lazy sorta wipe thinking ahhhh Mom will get it anyways. I ended up with her getting rashes on her bum as she woudn't wipe properly as her teacher wouldn't help her.
With my second daughter..she is going into JK this year and I"ve made sure that she can clean up herself ! I figure around 3 1/2 they should start wiping themselves and I do check but I get them to wipe, look at the paper for poo...and wipe again until no poo on the paper. We go through a lot of wipes (for training I use wipes ) but then I have a garbage pail just for dirty paper/wipes so my potty doesn't clog!!;)

Here too. I don't wipe any longer than I have to. I will supervise and then check to see if they "need any assistance" but that's about it.

This is what bothers me so much! My 3yr old wipes, pants up etc all on her own but I caught her yesterday (went in to get something) and for a pee had 6 "squares" of the thick TP...I mean hello....NO! so I tried showing her that 3sq is plenty but she didn't get it. Im thinking of just getting those flushable wipes and telling her 1 at a time or pre-'cut' some ready for her!! lol that's just wasting $$

My kids can wipe fine, and dcG can but dcb doesn't wipe at all. He's 3 so I just have him yell when he is done and I wipe with a baby wipe. I hate the thought of sending them home with a unclean bottom. He was JUST trained this Summer so it's still new to him. May be a while I'm thinking.

LOL ~ I hear ya ~ I too have the 3 square rule .... I actually think the having a basket of 'squares' for them is a great idea but some kids would still just take several pieces of the squares :rolleyes:

I think we should start teaching them from a young age, but even as they grow up-wipes have become part of my daycare environment and my household. Wipes ensure a clean bum!!:)
