I just got of the phone with my problem mom.. Her 4 year old has the pox and apparently it is all my fault.. Fine. I have ONE child of my own who literally goes no where other than walmart and her grandmas/uncle's homes.

This girl goes to kindergarten, swimming and gymnastics, went to a birthday party last week ( I dropped her off and picked her up) and of course trick or treating. She easily came into contact with a 100 kids last week between all that but of course I gave her the POX which I never ever have had and my only child who is 14 months old was just diagnosed with severe asthma but of course mom is not concerned about us.

Its the POX not the Plague.. When my nieces and nephews were all little ( all 24 and older now) my 2 sisters and 2 sister in laws would hunt down the kids with pox and send there kids over to play, figuring the younger the child gets it the better. It acutally worked for some of them, they caught the pox shared with the siblings and done.

Is it just me, or is this mom over reacting. I think she is most upset because I do not take knowingly sick children (common rule among daycare home I am sure) and she has to stay home as her hubby is a hydro worker who has gone to the States to help out in the aftermath of Sandy.

I am just really annoyed, and if I did not like her kid so much I would tell her to take a hike. This mom is really nice but everything either annoys or upsets or she finds the need to micromanage me,

Ha, silly parents. You are not solely responsible for the chicken pox... that I can tell you.

Let it roll off. parents like this I just like to make a joke about it before they can jump down my throat.

Even IF it did come from your kid....it's not like you shared it on purpose...isn't that life when you're sending a kid to daycare...isn't that just life for anyone?!?! duh! That's just silly!

So then I guess this parent didn't have her child vaccinated against Varicella, which is chicken pox? Maybe you should ask her about that. A lot of children have that vax and it doesn't even prevent it so how much does that tell you? The disease has a fast mutating virus that has been around forever and will be around long after we are all gone.

Don't feel bad and go ahead and tell the Mom all of this if you hear any more about it! Yeeeesh!

Don't feel bad and go ahead and tell the Mom all of this if you hear any more about it! Yeeeesh! I agree 150% with Momof4. I paid to have my children vacinated against chicken pox when they were small - it wasn't covered by OHIP at that point in time - because I was really sick when I contracted the chicken pox as a child. It's not well known, but chicken pox can cause some serious, long term neurological problems in children. Most children who come down with it will recover from it and be just fine, but it is a mistake to treat it too causually - chicken pox parties are/were never a good idea. So while I can understand the parent's fear over her child being sick (likely what is causing the slightly crazed behaviour) it's in no way your "fault" and it's very inappropriate for her to actually come out and accuse you of making her child sick. Some people !

She should be greatful her child got the pox. If this dcg got the chicken pox when she was a teenager or a young woman, she'd be in deep water as it is extremely dangerous for females with possible effects on fertility. I'd love to say to the mother if she is so insistant that the pox came from you then she should thank you lol Some parents are such morons. And as for the vaccine in Canada, thats another laughable matter, and another thread in my opinion. Bring on the pox parties :D

My daughter has had the chicken pox vaccine and she may still very well catch the pox immediately. The pox are most contagious before the spots appear which is why it spreads rabidly through out schools and sports.
I know she is worried about her kid, she is the mom who worries about every little thing so her concern triples when it is something like this.
That being said I am really annoyed with her and want to tell her to take a hike. I told my other parents about the pox and they were all " No problem nothing we can do about it now"
Some days I wished I had gone back to work.. More money/ less actual working hours for about the same bullshit lol

* I'm 27yrs and we had a 'pox party' my cousin had it and all the other cousins about 7 of us played in just our diapers/panties (I was 4.5 and my brother 1yr) so then we ALL got it and overwith! LOL *

This is totally not your fault! Even if your child had given her child the virus, it would still not be your fault unless you knowlingly exposed her to it! My own two kids came down with Hand Foot and Mouth disease last spring and I ended up closing my daycare for four days while they recovered...two of my daycare kids caught it anyway and the rest were okay...nobody blamed me for giving it to them...I did everything I could and it could not have been prevented. So I can understand why you are annoyed...I would be too! However, I'd probably just let it go as she is probably overreacting out of the stress of the whole situation and she will likely calm down once her daughter is better and she is back at work.

do you not have chicken pox vaccines in canada? or are they not manditory. In the states a child must have them at least by school age but I'm pretty sure they push them quite young....I optted out until they told me my kids couldn't go to school without them.:) either way, don't think its the end of the world and doesn't it make you furious to think this Mom has enough nerve to blame you and your house for a sickness her kid could have picked up anywhere? Reminds me of about a month ago when a Mom (micromanager as well) blamed me for her, her daughters and her husbands BAD colds. said: "it was their first Day Care illness"...in the mean time NO ONE in the daycare was ill!!!! I could have punched her in the face.....I just turned it around and told her she could not bring her daughter back until the "sick" are well for a full 48 hours. That ticked her off........whatever. .I think you have to have plenty of nerve to blame someone for an illness.

If you have no one at your house right now with the chicken pox then what makes this mom think her child got it at daycare - the incubation period is about 10 days and it will be from someone they were around that had a cold but no spots yet. Time to email the mom an info sheet on the disease.

Also chicken pox is no longer excluded from school or city run daycares because of the contagiousness although most invoke their no open sores rule to have the child stay home for a few days till scabbed over.

Kidlove, in Canada we can choose if we want to vaccinate our children or not vaccinate at all, and I'm not positive but I believe if children are not vaxed they have to provide a form to the school board before entering Junior Kindergarden.

The pox vaccine is not mandatory, but any child not receiving it has to provide a letter to the school, at least that is my understanding. My girl had it in September and if I had known how ill it was going to make her, I would have opted out until she was older. She was really sick with high fever, cough, runs and upset tummy for about 6 days.
This child who caught the pox had the vaccine as well.. No other child in my care has come down with it, and its not in the class at school either. So she obviously contracted it elsewhere.

I have two interviews this week so I can get these children mom is getting notice!

My DD also got the vaccine at a young age and she didn't get any reactions!! I guess it just depends on child. That sucks that you's got so ill.

So even if you've had the vaccine you can still catch the pox?? or If you had the pox once can you catch it again? I'm confused......

My girls had the pox twice. The first time when they were 6 and 8 but a very mild case and we were warned then that it might not give them full immunity. They got it again when they were 22 and 24 along with my 18 year old. We blamed that on their dad who had a mild case of shingles and was contagious before we realized what he had.

Non of them had the chicken pox vaccine since it wasn't around when they were little and never really thought about it when they were older.

I'm still confused though, what makes this mom think the virus came from your house? Does someone at your house have chicken pox now?

Yes you can still get the poxs if you have vaccine. it doesn't always "take". Having the vaccine just means its less likely to get the pox.

Yes just because you have had the poxs does not mean you will not get it again. I have had the chicken pox twice, once as a kid and once when I was 29. I also have a friend who has gotten 4 times.

When I got it the 2nd time, I have no clue were I got then from. My only guess is that I got it from one of my customers (I was working retail at the time).
People can have the chicken pox and never know it. that is what happen to my dad. he never got the spots, but when his dr. checked his blood work, it came back positive to him having had it. He was going to get the vaccine, but since he had had the pox he was not aloud to get it.

Yep...my oldest son had it three times when he was little...mildly each time. My youngest two are vaccinated, but I know they may still get it...I am hoing just mildly though. My neighbour just told me that headlice has gone through her daycare...brought by her school-aged daughter...who goes to my son's school :( Apparently it is at epidemic proportions! Guess which little boy is getting his head shaved?! IMO headlice is far worse...so much work involved in getting rid of it!!! Ack!!!

wow, I thought it was a once ever thing? I guess it would be like any other virus, the strain can be dif, maybe stronger...or perhaps it depends on your immune system at time of contact. maybe if you have a cold already and your immune system is down, you will be more likely to pick up. Yuck. Had a Dr appt yesterday and had to bring my kids with me, while in the waiting room a little girl came in with what looked like the pox all over her face and hands, her Mom allowed her to go over to the toys and play!!!!!!! I told my kids to have their hands in their laps the entire time. Sure enough, as soon as the nurses saw them in the wait room, they called them back ahead of everyone else, must have been highly contagious. Thanks to that Mom for letting her kids play with the toys in the wait room. Spread on woman! (not sure why there are toys in a dr office wait room anyway) :(

Yeah...actually I have noticed in the past couple of years that they have removed all the toys from doctor's waitingrooms. I remember when my oldest was little, our doctor had an entire toyroom/germ breading ground! I don't even like my kids to touch the magazines in those places! Not that it does any good...we get sick anyway...in fact I am closed today for a sick day for me and my daughter....which is why I am on this forum at this time of day!

You can still get chicken pox after having the vaccine it's just usually a milder out break. All three of my youngest have had the vaccine and they have never gotten it.

How in the world did you allow her child to get chicken pox? LOL just kidding of course. I cant believe that any parent would try to lay the blame on daycare for their child getting sick with anything. If you dont want em to get sick, stay home with em.

Shoot I would've called all the parents and asked if they wanted to have a pox party and I'd just be the infirmary for the week lol.
