Not Pooping in the Potty

I have a 2.5 yr old boy who has been potty training for the past few months. He has done really well with going all by himself when he has to pee, but wil not poop on the potty. He is a very regular nap-time pooper, always has been.
Before naptime, when I have him pee on the potty, I knwo he has to poop but says "I dont want to". Then sure enough, I am changing a nasty diaper 2 hours later.
At what point is this 'choice' the boy is making no longer going to be 'acceptable'? I do not punish or discipline for potty mishaps, but always tell him poop is very dirty stuff and should go in the toilet!
I know lots of kids have aversions to #2 in the potty but how long should this continue for?
Any advice?

I have no advise cause I have a 4 yr old in care that won't poop or pee in the potty! Although it is quite common for a child to not poop in the potty when they start training and he is still young so I would just stay positive and maybe have him sit a little longer, once he realizes that it is okay maybe he will continue.

Just my opinion, but 2.5 years old is still very young and I wouldn't worry yet. He has lots of time.

My 3 year old son is the same way. He does great at peeing in the toilet...but is a naptime pooper too. I tried a couple of times leaving a diaper off and that seemed to do the trick until the one day....yuck! So, I now leave a diaper on and figure someday he will 'get it'. We keep on trying.

Unfortunately this is one of those areas where the more we push they more they push back ... just keep sending th message you prefer that go in potty now eventually they will get there ... if he's pooping during nap time he might not have the sphincter muscle control??

Somehow that made me chuckle...imagining what kind of exercise I can possibly have the toddlers do to increase their sphincter control;). But, I'm sure the best thing for that is time:)

My daughter is the same!!! She is pretty much fully trained for pee and wears underwear most of the day (once she has pooped)...but the poop is harder. I did manage to get a tiny little poop in the toilet yesterday and cheered her on like crazy...so here's hoping! I actually bought some special "fancy" (well they are not that fancy...but I she likes it if I call them that) underwear that I keep on a shelf and if she poops she is allowed to choose a new pair to wear. She loved them because they have stars and polka dots, etc...very girly things that she likes ;) At first I thought me buying them and telling her what she has to do in order to wear them, had no effect, but thent he next day after she did manage a tiny poop, the first thing she said was "Now can I have the new big girl underwear?" ;) I am hoping we will move forward from here now that she has had a little succes. She also poops right after waking up in the morning...I think it is a combination of being relaxed and the privacy of it. I agree with those that said, don't pressure or he will hold out even more!
