So Grandma picks up Daycare Siblings today and tells me DCM is so sick with the flu. She cannot keep anything down and she is really, really bad  And how hard it will be to keep the kids away from her (they all live together) cause they of course will want mommy.
So it's a given that my two dck's (siblings) will get sick with the flu. And of course, bring the virus into my house (it already is...ARGGGHH). What can I do? I cannot refuse care because someone in the household is sick with the flu.
So grandma is leaving and she reminds the kids, don't worry you'll be back tomorrow. My face was frozen in sheer terror. I don't want the flu bug in my house. Last time these two Typhoid Marys brought the flu in...in swept thru the whole daycare and onto my entire family. With Christmas coming up very soon and my daughters 2nd birthday next week, I'm shuttering whose next.
This sucks.

We just had it go through here, first time in 5 years it hit the daycare - every kid and all their family members have had it ...my spouse and I must have strong immunity right now cause we've lucked out and avoided it ... time to up some preventative medicine like probiotic so it cannot take up root in the intestines!!!
I`ve been there...scary. I strip them down at the door and put them in their change of clothes, then go straight to the sink to wash hands before touching anything! And of course disinfect doorway and all that may have been touched upon entering.
Besides that you can`t do too much. but just that always makes me feel better!

I visited the drugstore this evening and picked up some ColdFX Immunity FX for us. As well as some probriotic drinks. Drinking orange juice throughout the day. Washing our hands and wiping down surfaces. I don't know what else to do. :(
I'm going to keep a bottle of hand sanitizer by the door as well.
I'm thinking maybe I should have got my flu shot this year. I'm always on the fence about that anyway

I know what you mean. A dcMom wrote to me this afternoon telling me that she had the flu from last Friday to Monday and just went back to work today. I didn't have a clue because the Dad drops off and picks up his daughter here and didn't say a word. Today the little girl wasn't herself and had red cheeks and red rimmed eyes and I'm very, very afraid that we're all in for a flu epidemic. I hope not!
But OtherMummy, you are right, there isn't anything you or I could have done if we had known before instead of after. We can't turn healthy children away at the door because we're afraid. It's part of the business and part of our promise to the parents. Good luck to both of us!
I hear you Other Mummy. Either the parents tell you after the fact how sick they have been or they come sick, tell me they are too sick to work and are going home meanwhile their child is coming to daycare. Yikes! I know I look stricken when they tell me this so they all knowingly reassure me "oh xxxx will be fine" Really?

Uggghh...Yup. The Flu has landed at my house. My 9 yr old son came down with it yesterday. High fever, vomiting, totally imobile. He's segregated in his room to avoid it spreading to the rest of the DCK's. Its just a matter of time before the Tyhpoid Mary siblings get it.

In my contracts I clearly state that if anyone in the household or in direct care of the children is sick with ANY illness sich as the flu, or of contagious nature, the child is to remain out of my care until the sick have been well for a full 48 hrs. Every year during cold and flu season i post it on the front door to help remind parents of my rules. I would not open if anyone in my home was ill with a contagious sickness to prevent spreading to every who enters, I expect the same from my day care families. Have had kids spill the beans in mid day before that Mom or Dad is home ill, throwing up and such...I don't care if the kid has already been here half the day..I call the Mom or Dad for immediate pick up! that to me is common sense, especially something as contagious as the flu, keep it away from others!
