:( Having one of those yucky days! I was fine all weeekend, until last night after dinner. It apparently didn't agree with me. I felt gross right after, then woke up through the night and though that I'd feel better after that. But, I've felt pretty gross all day.
I explained to the kids that sometimes we just don't feel great and that we're going to have a quiet day. I just can't wait for the next hour to be over, so I can curl up on the sofa and let my hubby take care of dinner and everything tonight!

Oh no quick recovery vibes ~ I can work through a cold and other under the weather things but not the sick to the stomach issues I would have had to take today off work :(

Well, I really thought that it was over when I woke up. I was tired, but understood why, but then as time went by I realized that I still felt gross. Everything smells awful!

Feel better gcj. I work while sick unless I'm vomitting, which has only happened on weekends since I've been open (knocking on wood). I closed one day ever because I couldn't breathe and I was dizzy and so sick with a cold, but the dcparents knew I was in trouble because I've worked through everything for years, so they were understanding. If you do your very best to be reliable for the parents they won't be mad at you when you really, really need a day off.

I hope you dont have the flu....could spread it to all your kids and families! :( I always close when I am sick. just precaution.

I'm the same as Momof4. I always work sick unless vomiting or my fever's too high to watch the kids safely. I had to take a day off 2 wks ago with a wicked case of Strep Throat that had me laid up for 4 days. The sick day was followed by 2 free play and movie days. I never, ever get sick like that and call in sick even less, so clients were really great about it. Really, I need to be almost comatose to call in. Of course I don't want to pass it along to others, but chances are very, very, very high that I got it from the kidlets to begin with, so I don't sweat it too much. Parents can make their own decisions in that regard, in my opinion....without me losing part of a much needed paycheque.

None of us should ever feel guilty for taking a sick day. After all, the daycare children brought the germs to us and the daycare parents brought the sick children to us.

Yeah, try telling that to the parents;)

But I do tell the parents, mimi. In a nice way, but I mention it now and then for sure! I also remind them now and then that I have a waiting list and clients on maternity leave who want a space. There's nothing wrong with letting our clients know that they should value their space and value their caregiver whenever the occasion may arise.

Oh I completely agree with you Momof4! The usual reaction from my clients when their child is sick is to look to the daycare and ask who gave the illness to their child. It infuriates me that they assume it comes from daycare. My daycare is constantly being sanitized at this time of year especially.
I do remind the parents that when they go to work/mall/grocery store that they can catch something there too.

You never know where the virus came from, honestly could be as crazy as someone sneezing in the isle at the grocery store and you pick up a box of cereal just after the sneeze, picking up more than just your breakfast! ;) nothing we can do regarding contracting the virus, but MUCH we can do in terms of spreading it to others. I almost never get sick anymore, built quite an immunity over the years, but when I am so sick, If I feel awful and barely keep on the go as ussual? I close. You know if you have a nasty virus super contagious or just a run of the mill cold, average colds or sinus infection nothing you can do about it, just wash hands lots and of course refrain from holding kids too much or kissing and hugging...but if I have a tummy bug or am literally down and out and just need rest to get well, I will close and take the cut in pay. Over the years I have had few who complain when I close and if they do, I point out to them...I am only doing my best to keep the bug from all the others. Try to set an example to all parents the fact that I dont take illness lightly, if I close when I am under the weather, they are a lot less likely to try and bring their kids when they are under the weather, not to mention in setting the example of not spreading from my part, it is much easier to tell them....I don't do it to you, so please don't do it to me! if you work sick, they will feel more inclined to drop their kids off sick and so on! :( I hate illness!

I always point out to my parents that although sickness can spread any where, it really is less likely for a child to get sick from a quality "small" day care, considering, we CAN clean and sanitize all day long......big schools however? no way they can keep all surfaces clean and sanitized all day long, and any public facility is just crawling with germs, our homes are much cleaner. ;)

Hate the comment from parents....."must have got it from the day care!" kiss my patootie! :)

I got extremely sick the week before christmas and I opened anyways. Even my husband was sick :( NEVER AGAIN.

The only thing that would of pissed me off closing, is the fact that I lose money since I wouldnt get paid.

Hope you feel better today :D

it was one of those days, where I was well into the day before I realized how crappy I felt. Turned out I was fine by the morning, but my daughter was feeling crummy.....or at least I bought her little act and she stayed home with us yesterday. And today I have my neighbours little terror (I mean son :woot:) since she had an emergency situation and tomorrow my new dcg is doing her first full day. Is it the weekend yet!
