What do you do when one of your children has a cold? Do you tell the daycare parents, or do you just not say anything. My daughter has a slight runny nose. She's been playing lots today, but she has been sneezing a few times. Would you tell all the daycare parents, or would you just not say anything? I kinda feel like kids always seem to have a runny nose, so it's not that big of a deal. Just wondering what everyone's opinions are!

I only tell the parents if my children are really sick, fever, vomiting etc. If its just a common cold, I don't bother.

my 2 dcg's are always sick. I think they are sick more then they are healthy.

I do the same as BlueRose. I only tell the daycare parents if one of my girls' has a fever, vomiting, etc. There is always one in the group with a cold almost all the time.

I do not have wee ones of my own but in general regardless if it was my family member or a daycare child I only share if someone in the program has been exposed to something 'communicable that would require exclusion' so that clients know what to watch for and are reminded that should those symptoms show up keep your kid home ... this includes not just direct clients but if I have been informed one of our playgroups has something going through it.

In those cases I let all clients know the program has been exposed to X ~ what the symptoms are, if they need to be seen by a DR if they show symptoms and what the exclusion period from daycare is should their child show similar symptoms.

My two had a horrible cold (caught from a Daycare child) for just about 2 weeks. I had a friend beg me to watch her little one for a day as she had an appointment and I never even thought to mention the colds my kids had (because it had been so long)...anyways my friend's little one caught the cold?!?! And she posted how upset she was that her daughter was sick, I said I was so sorry I didn't mention anything and she keeps avoiding conversation with me now?! Next time I think I will mention it and let them decide if they want to bring their child, or find someone else! She's making me feel even more horrible!

You were nice enough to take your friend's child at a time she was desperate enough to beg...ad she's giving you the cold shoulder for a freakin cold? Welcome to parenthood...sh*t (excuse the language) and colds happen.

Uggg it is not fair when people automatically 'blame daycare' for their sick children .... do they not take their children anywhere else in public or do the poor things only move from home to daycare their entire life?

IMO if your children were over the cold and no longer symptomatic than they most likely would not have been 'contagious' any longer cause the virus had been killed by their immune system and the last of the symptoms were just subsiding ~ her kid likely caught the cold at the grocery store, mall or 100's of other places that the virus is going around that she may have been exposed including any of her own family members bringing it home and it was just coincidence that she started showing signs right after having been in daycare!

It sucks that the child got sick but unless she has kept the kid in a bubble before and after coming to your house there is no assurance that YOU made her sick and personally would not let my own guilt or the mother's immaturity of blaming you for it affect you ... it is people like that who caused the phrase 'never mix business with pleasure' to evolve because with them it never ends well!

It drives me crazy when people blame the daycare for their children's illnesses! Really, my clients have been excellent about it. I've never had anyone accuse me because their child gets sick. I suppose it may have to do with the clients who choose me as well. At the intake interview, I always, always tell parents that their child will get sick, a lot! I let them know that I disinfect every Friday, keep the children clean and I even have a small disinfect bin for toys that get all goobed up during play time which are disinfected daily. But they're still going to get sick. It's a fact of bringing children to any location with other children. I also tell them that it's better that they get everything now and build up their immunity BEFORE they start attending school. So, my clients know right off the bat what to expect. I also take children who aren't feeling well (within reason...less than 101 temp, no vomit/diahrrea) and that EVERYONE is afforded that luxury. They know that I can't control illness and that despite my best efforts, I can't always control the spread. Any parent who made me feel guilty for their child being sick can move on and find other daycare. They were warned.

The week before Xmas I'm the one who was sick the a terrible gastro (but upwards not downwards haha I dont even know if that words) anyways I opened because I felt bad being closed during the holidays on top of that but I did warn them that I WAS VERY SICK AND ITS AT THEIR OWN RISK ! (If it happens again though I will close, if was just because of the Holidays) They all brought their kids :(

I dont says for a cold but, if more then one sneeze and runny noses, I just give them heads up that its starting AGAIN so... more rest and more Orange juice !!
