View Full Version : What do you "do" for yourself?

I am feeling a little "frumpy" these days, perhaps it's a mid life thing, perhaps it's a "mom" thing, perhaps it's a "day care provider/never get out of the house" thing, OR a "winter is too long" thing....or all of the above! but I have decided to get my hair highlighted for the first time ever....since becoming a Mother nearly 12 years ago...I am in the mood to give myself a boost, do something for me, change a little about my style, perhaps make myself feel a little sexy! hee hee :p.
What do you do when you need a "pick me up"?

I admit I sometimes get a little wistful for my pre-daycare days when I see the Mom's dropping off all made up, with perfume. Seeing my closet which now is bursting with yoga pants and sweatshirts. And yes, I do get a bit of cabin fever for sure! Not to mention kids demand a lot of you in a day...I find by 8pm when my own are in bed I just want to escape to my bed and have no more contact with humans for the rest of the night;). For a pick me up....a book and a nice bath...the occasional espresso and cookies @ break time...date night with hubby once a week...hair dye to dye away those grays once in awhile....and my once a month scrap booking (gab fest) with the girls.

Admittedly, this is something I need to work on myself. I told my husband that this weekend I am heading to Chapters to go browse for some books by MYSELF, and have some "me" time. I got a bunch of gift cards for Christmas, and I have a huge list of books I want. I'm excited! I don't remember the last time I went anywhere by myself other than to grocery shop.
I also try to do a date night with my husband once a month, and I try to get together with my sister once a month (hasn't happened lately) just to get away from the house.
I find winter is the hardest time to do daycare as we are stuck inside soo much more due to weather.

I own a scrapbooking retreat centre which is filled with guests on the weekends, but during the week I sometimes sneak over there to have some papercrafting time. I put my iPod on with my favourite music (ie. NOT children's music LOL). It rejuvenates me!

I spend an hour or two in the bath most nights. I put on my music and just relax. Sometimes I go window shopping at the small mall across the street with out the kids or husband. My fav. is getting my hair cut.

I cant think of a better place to go to. Chapters is my go to place to de-stress and if i am looking to escape completely then i will venture to a good used book store for the day and just go get lost :-)

I got a spa gift card for Xmas and have an appointment this evening for a massage. Even with all the snow I'm gonna be there for sure.

brightsparks- That sounds fun. Enjoy your self. Be safe while driving, I know the roads are pretty slippery in the Niagara Region today!

For me it's a massage and hair. However a glasse of wine, a good bubble bath, a book and peace and quiet works too. If I want to feel sexy ... a new top or pants and nice makeup and asking my husband to take me out for diner or just order in with my best smile on. When I can get my husband to spend money ...I KNOW I look good LOL Ok that's a joke but still ... half true.

Thing I have done before and REALLY enjoyed was going to the movies ALL BY MYSELF. Have not done it in a while since usually by 9h00 I am already in bed too tired LOL. But it feels soo good.

I agree ... as women, mothers and caregivers we need to make sure that we are doing things to constantly recharge our body, mind and soul on a regular basis so that we still have energy in excess to give to others ~ else they start sucking on the energy of our actual body, mind and soul and doing long term damage to any of them!

I paper craft, keep a gratitude journal and regularly meditate for my 'mind and soul' as well as admittedly recharge my soul through 'learning' so I read blogs, network with others and so forth as a bit of a information junkie for my mind so I feel 'stimulated' past the 'I have pink shoes' conversations and for the body I go for regular pedicures, irregular massages and facials and just recently we got a Y membership so I can start taking better care of the body too!

Find what speaks to your mind, body and soul and nurture it ladies cause life is too short to spend it doing only the mundane things!

I have been thinking of investing in a stationary bike.....becoming a "spinner"....work on the butt and leg muscles and get out some much needed stress through exercise. ;)

OMGeeeeee!!! YES. LoL
I have been feeling very frumpy and haggard lately!! I used to think "Well, at least I clean up pretty nicely." But we went to a wedding a little while ago, and I still felt like a dowdy old lady, hahahaha!
I have decided that it's time to start taking care of my appearance a little more. Yes, I may wear a LOT of work-out gear when I am not, in fact, working out. But I can at least slap on a little blush, and make an effort with my hair, right? (She says until the alarm goes at 5:30am, LoL)

I like to workout-really make me feel great! I run every night after dinner after my baby is in bed :)

I attend a Pilates class once a week with my BFF who is also a childcare provider! We walk from her house and enjoy the 2 hours we get together with no one elses demands!

OMG! Your post described me to a 'T'!! Thankful I'm not the only one as I was thinking there was something wrong with me.

I try but haven't been able to keep up with as of lately and have just started this week again to have 2 nights a week where I am 'off'. After dinner I leave my husband in charge of the kids and bedtime routine and just go out. I mostly go to the gym, but I also do coffee with a book, walks, dinner by myself at a restaurant, grocery shopping. Pretty much whatever I want to get my brain away from kid stuff.
