So, since I've been missing one little guy all week and school kids are all off today I decided to invite dcb's older sister. She's always said how she wants to stay when she comes for drop off, so I thought what the heck. And I actually thought she'd help out since the kid on vacation is apparently the glue that holds the rest of the group together. Without him, they don't seem to know how to play. They keep looking to me to entertain constantly. And while we do circle time, crafts, games, activities, there are points during the day where they MUST free play. I need it and I believe that it's good for them, too! Usually this is no problem, but not this week.

Turns out school-aged children just need a faster pace. The little ones are used to our slow pace. No rush. It's not constant go go go...it works. My kids are older, but I guess they're in their own home, so do their own thing. And they're more comfortable to get right in there and lead play on pd days. I just feel like I totally suck in this sibling's eyes! She's probably going to go home and say how boring I am!

Lesson learned! Loooong weekend coming up in T-3 hours :D

I feel your pain! My "glue" child (lol) is also off this week, and same thing no one knows how to play - why is that because they don't all play with her when she is here?? However I didn't completely loose my mind and invite an older kid to play!!!! At least it is fake Friday!!!! And we can enjoy a beverage or three this evening:-)

I am sitting with my 31/2 dcg while the others are napping. It is a constant "I'm hungry" and "what are WE going to do now Mimi?" AHHHHHHHHHHHHH

I can't admit that I made a mistake, though. My husband told me that I was out of my mind! I told him all the reasons that it was a great idea. Oh well. It's not THAAAT bad. Older kids just expect more. They know lame when they see it :p Little kids think everything is a big deal and exciting! Makes me appreciate that age group more...
