Wow! I can't believe how much a parent will do to pass their responsibilities on to you! Maybe I'm over reacting but it just makes me mad! And then they get mad when you catch them in their lie. So yesterday dcb came and his eye started to run. I thought he poked his eye or something. I told mom to keep an eye on it and if it started to get pink or red that she should bring him to the doc because it might be pink eye. He's had it before so.. Well she dropped him of this morning and she said nothing and didn't give me a chance to ask any questions. So I bring him to the light and his eye is blood shot and running with yellow discharge. I call mom right away to come get him. She's not very happy. It's not my responsibility to look after your sick child!! Agh some times parents drive me nuts!!

Wow! Some folks really make you shake your head  Sorry you have to deal with this. This mom would be facing a termination notice if she pulled that stunt here

That would frustrate me.....I've got one that's the same, but with fevers....she masks her child's illness with Tylenol all.the.time! She seems to think its totally acceptable to send her child to daycare siick, when fact she should be at home. Before i had the nerve to send her home with a fever i would just giver her more tylenol as requested by mom, but now i wont. I'm changing my sick policy effective next week to eliminate this as I feel totally taken advantage of when parents deliberately bring their children to my home when they are sick.

I have it right in my policies that parents are not to give their child fever reducing medicine and send their child to daycare as a fever is an indicator that something is brewing. If a child needs Tylenol or Advil to make it through the day then they should be at home. I also do not administer Tylenol or Advil ( or similar) and I will only administer dr prescribed medications according to the directions on the bottle. So yes this parent would totally p|££ me off bringing her child when she knows he has something seriously contagious. She would get a warning and she would not be allowed to bring her child tomorrow as he needs to be on meds for a min of 24 hrs ..... So her weekend starts now!!!!!

Yeah I told her that he is not to come tomorrow. But if she starts his meds today that he can return on Monday.

Oh for pete sake, does this parent not see when her child has an eye infection? Now it can be spread to you and all the other children, nice. Sorry, but I have no patience for inconsiderate people. I hope you have a policy that the child can return 24 hours AFTER the symptoms are gone.

It's so unfortunate when parents do this. It completely destroys and trust or respect. We never look at these types of parents the same way after they pull something like this.

I had a client drop off their child with a soother in their mouth one day. Left very quickly! We took out the soother after she left and she had a huge rash around her mouth. I checked her hands and feet and she's rashing everywhere!

Lucky for me (and the parent) she was shocked when I called her, thought she just had a mouth rash from use of the soother. She sent a grandparent to pick up and they were here within minutes. At least she was hugely appologetic. The child was off for another 48 hours and went to the dr in the mean time so the parent was redeemed.

Dcdad dropped off dcg on Tuesday. He said she had a runny nose but was otherwise fine. For the rest of the day dcg was quiet and clingy and teary. At pick up when I reported her day, dcdad said, yeah she didn't sleep much last night and had a fever on the weekend. Thanks for the heads up pal. Do they think this is a game for me to quess the childs problem. Today Dcmom calls and said she has been sick all week and this dcg is not coming today. O.K. so you knew there was an illness in the home and never told me. Seriously parents is it your mission to spread the germs??????

Oh I need to vent on this post too! Although it happened over a month ago... it still makes me very mad! Dcg vomits right before lunch and when I called mom at work, she tells me "oh yeah he vomited at home this morning too and I forgot to tell you". She went on explaining that she thought he was sick because of his very sensitive gag reflex (which he has) but never considered that he might have gotten the bug that she had for the past 2 days!!!!

I clearly told mom on the phone and dad at pickup that this situation was unacceptable and that regardless of there thoughts or deductions they were obliged to discuss this with me and it was my decision if I chose to take on the child or not.

It was a difficult situation because I truly did believe that they thought nothing of it, however the child was sick with fever and everything else for 3 days after the episode. I sent them a written letter clearly quoting my contract and sickness policy and noting how this puts everyone at risk.

So DeeDee, in my opinion you are not overreacting and you should address it both verbally and in written.

I had a parent do this last week, my chikd was sick with direah and vomit.. A week later and he is still isolated from the other kids, I've read that you are contagious until 3 days after you have no more symptoms if direah.. We are working on day 2 of no poops.. Poor guy I started running datcare so he could have playmates!!! I define thy told that mom off and she had the nerve to tell me she wouldn't be needing my services any more.. Seriously I wouldn't want to watch your kid after what happened!! Not to me too. That this was the second time dropping off her sick kid, the first time it was punk eye and she told me her daughter had never had it yet after I watched her child I noticed gunk I beer eyes and a very nasty stuffy nose, my chikd got the same thing 2 days later and at that ti d u didn't have any other kids.. This time she drops her child off after having the Rota Virus!!! She wasn't better though!! She still had direah and by this Time I'm watching 4 other kids!!! And she has the nerve to tell me it's going around town and that maybe my child got sick by the one that goes to school!! But in actual fact all kids were healthy before she dropped her kid off!! Now my kid got sick and my chikd in turn got some of the other kids sick!! Shame on parent that drop sick kids off at daycare!! This sound harsh but you have babies be ready to take care if them when they are sick it is not someone else's responsibility to take care of your sick child!! Sheesh..
