So I have a very new pt time 12 month old dcb. He's here 1 -5 today. I specifically tell Mom I do nap 1 - 3, so he will get his nap when he comes in. Dad drops him off and on his way out the door says "Oh yah, he just woke up, so he probably won't sleep". Are you kidding me???? He's now screaming, keeping every other kid awake. I guess that I don't get a break today. Did I also mention that I have a migraine :(

Ugh that's the worst...I would be having a little chat with the parents at pickup. Best nip this in the bud ASAP.

Can you not put him in a pac-n-play on the main level with you with some toys. I had to do that with my 12 month old a few years ago that never napped. The parents used to put him to bed at 5:30pm and he would wake at 7am then take him straight to me. 7:30-5pm at daycare, it used to make me feel so sad to know he never had quality time with Mom and Dad.

This is why I do not allow drop offs past 9:30am. It disrupts the flow of the day. If DCD mentioned that his son just woke up...I would have handed him back and told him that 1-3 is Naptime for your daycare. Non negotiable. Parents Fail or DON'T CARE that this is our only time to catch our breath, get our rest period, eat, prep for the afternoon snack, etc

I put a stop to half days for this very reason. My dropoff time must be by 9am and pickups cannot occur until 3pm so that's a minimum of 6 hours per day which means parents must pay full day fees. I explain to parents that routine is essential for the health of the children and I protect their naptime. Time to put your foot down, hard!
