Hi fellow DCP,
At what age do you let the little ones start crafting. I mean paint and glue? Just wondering what everyone else did. How often do you do crafts with your little ones. At my centre care we did crafts 4 times a week. Is this too much for home care?
Just looking for some opinions:)
TIA

Currently my youngest gluing, putting stickers in a paper, and other simple crafts is 16 mos. She sees what other are doing and just copies it. She needs a little assistance, like putting glue in the paper for her, and peeling off the back part of stickers. I do crafts with my kids between 1 to 4 days per week. My oldest is currently 22 mos.

I'm not super crafty, but I try to do one per week. And thats on,y now that my dck are older, i didnt do any at all until the new year.Honestly I don't see myself doing 4 a week unless its a special occasion. As far as age, I try to do some with my 15-16 month olds but I still find they don't appreciate it very much yet. I think closer to 18 months will be better.

We do coloring, play dough, and colored rice bins every day though.

I'm ding painting with my 16MO dcb! he loves it! I would probably wait around 18mo to do glue... But I've been doing simple craft with them and they love it!

I start the children learning the concepts of crafting as soon as they start daycare no matter their age. Waterproof markers and fingerpaints are the best mediums for artwork. Teaching them to place stickers on paper or googly eyes on the glue with your hands on their hands takes practice but tracing their hands of painting their hands or feet and making the craft that way makes the parents happy because it's a great memento of their baby even though they might be too young to create yet.

I start crafts day one of them starting to come to my home...my youngest dck just turned 1 and she loves coloring with crayons, finger painting, glueing and stickers....the younger they start, the more complex things we can do later on....I plan 2 crafts a week and usually do color sheets or work sheets 1-2x a week depending on the day and weather.

Same here, they start crafting with everyone else no matter the age, I just adapt it to them. As for crafts we do 2-3 times a week and it's not always a BIG art project. I just invent one at the beginning of the day or Google something. I also always have stickers and coloring available.
