I have a dcm who picks up her child everyday and knows that I not only have my own 2 kids but have dck that are still there when she comes and she just prolongs the pick up by chatting and watching her child act up in front of both her and I. Its almost like she doesnt want to take him home and play. You can tell that he is king of the house and controls the parents so maybe he is a handful but thats not my problem. He runs away while she watches me chase him over and over. I make an effort to grab him and hand him right over to her so she puts on his gear and leaves but she just lets him go so he can run away again. Arghh so annoying as she can hear the other dck getting rowdy while I'm not there. With my setup I cannot put up any gates or anything as we use my lower level for dc and parents pickup on the main level. Any suggestions to get her to take her kid and run without being rude.

Have him dressed and ready at the door and hand him off to Mom. Tell her you have to go check on the other kids, turn around and leave!

exactly what i was going to suggest.

I have some parents who linger some times...even some of the dads and it can be annoying. Sometimes I will go check on the other children and leave the child and the parent in the hallway themselves to get ready while I run to see what else is going on and then I come back to see if they are ready to go yet. :) It kind of works as a hint...but still parents can linger on.

The other annoying thing about lingering parents is almost like they want to talk more about their child's day but at that point, I have filled out my daily report and usually on the spot I go brain dead and couldn't tell you anything substantial about your child. By 5 pm my brain is mush.

Have the child dressed and ready to go sitting on the floor or a chair by the door and when the parent walks in say " there's mom ... Well you have a nice night and ill see you tomorrow" and then I would say to mom he's had a great day log sheet is in the bag (if you send them home) and ill see you tomorrow ". And then leave ..... They will leave too cause otherwise they will be standing there by themselves ...

Either have him ready at the door and hand him out, or bring him to mom, communicate whatever you need to and then say "I need to get back down to the other kids, so I'll see you tomorrow" and walk away. If she lets her kid go and he comes back downstairs, then you escort him back and sternly tell mum "you can't let him run all over my house, when it's time to go it's time to go! Thanks for your help."
