Hi Fellow DCP,

I was just wondering what you guys all do when your own kids are sick.
This week my own LO got diagnosed with Strep throat. If another child had it I ask that parents keep them home until they are on antibiotics for 24 hours.......but what about when mine is sick? Do you close? Or do you stay open, tell them and say enter at your own risk? I have some that are part time so when he started to fever not all the children where there so I can't say well they have all been exposed already as some weren't.
I was not sick so why would I close but it only seems fair that I keep my LO away so I made husband stay home and we kept him out of the daycare but WWYD or have done? And what do you think is fair?

Thanks in advance for your thoughts and opinions
:)

Strep is pretty nasty. I would warn all daycare families. I would let them decide whether they want to still send their child or not. If it was a simple small cold then I wouldn't bother to say anything, but for things like strep (that require antibiotics) I would definitely warn everyone. This way parents can keep an eye on their child to catch it early.

3 weeks ago my son got the stomach flu and started vomiting Monday night. After taking him to the emergency room I closed for 3 days. My families were very understanding. I did not open, because besides other kids getting a nasty illness I needed to take care of my son. My husband was traveling that week so no one else other than me could have taken care of him. With the other kids here I would not have been able to properly take care of him.

I would leave it up to the parent and simply tell them "my daughter has been diagnosed with strep, Im just giving you a heads up, but its completely up to you if you would like to continue bringing your son here" MOST parent figure their kids have already been around such kid and likely will or will not get it whether or not they send their kids there or not and I tend to agree, most sickness are contagious 7 day before they surface. If you leave it up to the parents IF they decide not to bring their kid then they still have to pay and you didnt take any time off.
