I still have families who haven't told me when they are taking their vacation this Summer... is this normal? Is it rude for me to ask when they're taking their vacation? The reason I want to know is that if I'm going to be down 1 or 2 then I can plan special outings, but if I don't know until the last minute, then I won't be able to plan anything. I find it kinda funny that parents want to know months in advance when we will be on vacation, but don't seem to even think about telling us when they will be away lol.

Not rude to ask. I had one family tell me last week that they're taking this week off. I don't care though, because they pay me anyway. I planned special things this week, but did it on the fly. :) I have two days this week where I only have one kid! I took her swimming yesterday with my own kids, and tomorrow, I think we're going to the zoo.

I would totally ask, though. Not rude at all. I say, "oh hi dcp. I am just updating my summer schedule and am wondering whether you're planning on taking vacation".

All my families take their vacation when I take mine so for me it's not really a problem ... Plus I don't do outings so it doesn't really affect me but if it did then I would just post a note on the door asking all families to notify me if they were taking any holidays outside of my holiday so I could plan for any outings.

Most of my clients take their vacations when I take mine, but I have a couple of families taking extra vacation this summer. They told me about it a few months ago so I could mark my calendar. I also still get paid unless I'm closed for vacation. If I were you, I would ask everyone.

Most of my families take their vacation when I take mine and I actually book in sync with one family cause it is just easier. I ask all my families to give me two weeks notice and I also have a reminder discussion the week before school gets out.
