I have a new 14th child who is having a hard time adjusting to our nap routine and cries. Perhaps not unusual, but I have never had a child that cries prior to naps. I still nurse my daughter to sleep and just don't know what to do with this new little one. Is 20minutes an ok length to let the child cry? I'm tempted to go in and reassure the child, but I fear upsetting everything and making harder to fall asleep. I cannot sit and cuddle as I have my own child to take care of as well. I do know that this child is still nursed at home, but apparently doesn't have issues falling asleep when it is only Daddy. I should mention to that the child is part time and only started in the last couple of weeks. Thanks for your input :)

If child is fine for daddy then assume the issue is new place, new routine and let her cry it out till she realizes that she really is fine. I agree that constantly going in only reinforces the if I stay awake she will come back mentality. Good idea to still check on child but not necessary to interact. Just lay down say good night and leave again and only do it once - just enough to assure yourself that child is fine other than crying.

I believe in the crying it out method but I do a maximum of 30 minutes before I go in and wipe the tears and snot, give them a hug and lay them back down and leave.

Let him CRY it out. I would go in ONCE probably around the 30 min mark and with no eye contact, shhhhh him, lay him back down and leave him there the remainder of naptime. I would also have him in the furthest away room in the house, with a loud fan or white noise machine on as well. With transitioning babies who cry non stop for the first little bit, its important that we have our breaks from them. He may take a couple of weeks but will get used to it.
Something else to think about... have a time frame in your head that you can handle listening to the crying. Mine is usually at the 2 week mark I tell parents that this is their 2 week warning if the crying doesn't stop their little one isn't the right fit for my daycare.
Good luck to you!!!
