Hey everyone,

I am planning to start childcare in my home in March, and was just wondering how long it took you to get your clients? I'm hoping that I can secure my spots in this amount of time.
Also, what about insurance? Is it necessary? Why would I need it?
Anything else I should really know before I start?

Thanks for your help!!!

I am in Ottawa and we have a wonderful support group for caregivers. If you go to their website there is a place on the homepage to download a start up kit. It contains lots of information for getting you started.

Something to be aware of is that childcare is changing in Ontario and there are new rules with regards to ratios and ages of children being brought in. Look on the forum for discussions of Bill 143 to get up to speed with the proposals and what you can do if you don't want the changes, etc. Second reading of the bill is in February. If you are starting your daycare in the Spring I would be cautious about how many children you accept into care ahead of time till we get a better sense of what the changes are going to mean for us.
