Do you send a follow-up email after an interview?

I had an interview Tuesday night that I think went pretty well, but haven't heard anything back from them. I sent them home with my contract to look over and said to call or email if they have any questions.

I'm considering sending a follow-up email just saying that I enjoyed meeting them and that I think their child would be a good fit here, I understand that it is a big decision to make but if they could let me know either way in the next couple of days, that would be great. Something along those lines, anyway.

Too forward? Would you just leave it if you didn't hear from them?

There is nothing wrong with sending an email saying exactly what you have said. Sometimes parents don't realize that the spot isn't being held for them until they make up their minds so go ahead. I always tell my families at the interview to let me know in a few days as the spot is open until I get someone's paperwork and deposit. If you didn't say that at your interview go ahead and send the message. It also lets them know that you would give them the spot if they want it.

Personally, I always leave it to parents to contact me first.

However, I see no harm in sending a nice little note saying something along the lines of ' nice to meet you' etc. if you feel like you need to know quickly! I would leave out the part about the child being a good fit.


You could say something like....I really enjoyed meeting you and (kids name) last night. I will be making my decision in the next week or so from the interested families. Please let me know if you would like to be considered.
