Stumped this year as to what to make with the little ones for Mother's Day. They are all pretty little (3 and under) so not sure what would be good to make. What are all you other dcp making with your dck this year :)

I found some little flower pots on clearance at jysk, like, teacup-sized. I'll have the kids paint them and we'll plant some flowers in them, I think. For the little ones, I'm planning on helping them put their handprint on it.
I've started a bunch of vegetable seedlings with the older kids and they've been very into helping me water them, so it's kind of a continuation of that. The kids are excited to plant and water their own plants, and hopefully the moms will think they're cute.

We are doing two things because I have different kids on each day.
We are planting flower seeds in little pots, which fits our gardening/flower theme, too.
We are doing clay pendants (salt dough clay) and pressing beads into them to dry. Then they can thread yarn through for a necklace.
Hopefully they both work out okay ;)

We're going to make the moms a sugar scrub next week. Debating between coconut or brown sugar with cinnamon and vanilla. I found some cute little mason jars at the dollar store to put it in. We'll of course make a card to go with it.

Mothers and Father's Day are my least favorite in terms of choosing a cute craft to do. I wanted to do the flowerpot too but couldn't find any so I picked up little birdhouses the kids will paint and we will make a card with a handprint or something too.

I kind of cheated. I have three 2 year olds and a one year old. We walked to my favorite kid's place, Fun time pottery. They each sponge painted a coaster and then we put their hand prints on it. And then they really wanted to use the paintbrushes, and hadn't had a chance yet. So we let them paint a magnet to go with the coaster. They had such a fun morning. And it's a decent walk from my house, so they were all ready for bed half an hour early!

I did this a few years ago and it was a huge hit. :) I am planning on doing it again this year. We used basil last time, not sure what I will use this time. Flowers seem fun!
I bought some 5 inch candles at Ikea and the kids are going to draw a picture or colour on white tissue paper (put a piece of regular paper underneath so it doesn't rip and ask them to colour gently) with sharpies. Then cut the tissue paper to fit around the candle, wrap wax paper around tissue paper and candle (wax side against tissue paper) and blow dry on high heat until the tissue paper adheres to the candle. I added the date and the child's name to the tissue paper. Turned out awesome.
For better instructions turn to Pinterst.:)

I also did something similar - used epsom salts w scented essential oil, added a bath puff & a cute poem. It was also loved by the moms - including mine. :)

daisy, adding the bath puff is a great idea! I just might borrow it! :)

One year for Father's Day I got my kids to fingerpaint on canvas from the dollar store and took pictures of them doing it. I then printed and framed the pictures and gave him the frame and canvas as a gift together. The artwork and picture frames are still hanging on our wall (my son was 14 months when we did it, he's now 4)

I haven't even thought about it yet...I am transitioning 2 new little ones and it's been sorta chaotic the past 2 weeks. I hurt my back this week and am in an awful and miserable mood due to the pain.
I think we will do a candle holder or maybe just bake something and make a cute card. We'll see how I feel next week lol

Oh no, sorry to hear that 5LM! I know you've had back problems in the past. It's me "the purple Bunny" (had to change my username). I hope you feel better soon and that your two new little ones settle in soon.
Love your ideas ladies! I am still trying to pick a craft.

I made this card with my toddlers and preschooler: http://www.brilliantbeginni ngspreschoolutah.com/2011/04/mothers-day-pieces-card.html
Next week we are going to make a mini version of this in a mason jar with succulents instead of cacti: http://www.abeautifulmess.c om/2013/06/planting-a-simple-cacti-garden-.html
My toddler boys aren't really into painting or colouring yet so I thought they would have more fun with the assembly process of dirt and rocks :-)
Then put it all in a paper bag decorated with stamps and stickers!

Hey purple bunny!! I had wondered where you went lol. Why did you have to change your username? Thanks for the well wishes :) I used to be on prescription painkillers but unfortunately our current health coverage doesn't cover it and it was almost $100 a month for the one that worked the best. I started getting the cortisone shots instead anyways so it was okay. However, I don't get the shots again until the 16th and the pain became too much for me so today I went and got the prescription med and just paid full price for it. I'm glad I did though because I already feel less pain!! :) My fiance's employment is voting in a new plan so hopefully they cover the good stuff lol.
Anyways, sorry to get side tracked there!! I looked on pinterest today for some ideas and I've narrowed it down to the picture transfer to white candles or their handprints on coffee mugs. I'll see what supplies I can find tomorrow. I can't remember who did the candles (mimi? crayola kiddies?) did it turn out really well? I hate spending all that time doing pinterest things and than they don't turn out...I've had my fair share of those! haha.

Lol...i changed it because it wasn't really anonymous. So I changed it to a completely different name. Suck cause I've lost all my DCB buddy's! Lol but I'm here!!!
I really hope you can get coverage soon. I wish all necessary meds were covered.
Anyway, back to the crafts, I love the potted plant idea. I'll keep an eye on this thread for more ideas and check out pintrest too.
Hey 5LM, I did the candle with the tissue paper. The candles turned out great. I just had the kids scribble or make little drawings on the tissue paper, cut it to fit the candle, wrap wax paper around it (make sure the waxy side in against the tissue paper) and I used the heat from the blowdryer. Make sure you let the candle cool before removing the wax paper and it did take a couple of wax paper applications before the tissue paper adhered to the candle. They do look really good.
Oh, and wear an oven mitt on the hand that is holding the candle while you blow dry so you don't feel the heat on your hand

Well we did the candles this morning and they turned out great! Thanks for the oven mitt tip, it gets hot! Lol.
Instead of cards, I bought canvases and I taped the word "mom" on them. They will paint the canvas and I'll peel the tape off.

Transitioning a new one this week so I think I am going to be lazy and get the kids to make cards and then buy some roses for the kids to give their mom's.

Sorry to hear about your back 5lm !!! That would be tough with all the lifting and movement needed in the dayhome !!!
I am doing an easy craft !! I bought very pretty cupcake liners and pipe cleaners , they will colour the inside of the liner and then stick the pipe cleaner through it and pinch it , then tie them all together with ribbon !! Voila !! A bouquet of flowers !!
I can't handle another hand print lol !!!

THanks secondtimearound!! I actually quit centre daycares to open up my hdc because it was less lifting and such. (My previous job was in healthcare with elderly disabled patients, so it was no better. My back hates me lol) I've been taking the good drug and it's been manageable :)
Haha, I hear ya on the handprint!!! That is partly the reason I didn't do the handprint on the mug....I feel like I've done a lot of handprint art over the last couple years for gifts! This group is young too and I find it more work to get the handprint lol. (gee, could I say handprint anymore?? haha)
Lot's of cute ideas here!!
