View Full Version : Extra Holiday Day too inconvenient?

I have only had my daycare open for a few weeks and things are going well. I told all parents that I was taking a week's holiday in July. I gave them tons of notice. I just recently booked flight to go overseas for that week and we could only get flights that leave on Friday night.

I really want to just close the daycare on the Friday before my week off (and then the Monday of the following week is a holiday). Is this a horrible thing to do to parents? It's still over a month's notice for the extra day.

I could also open for a partial day and charge partial fees but that seems confusing.

I want to remain professional but so t want to anger my new families already! What would you do?
Thanks!

Over a month's notice is lots of notice. Book it off and don't worry about it. If you feel really guilty about it then close at noon. I do charge half fees if I close at before 1pm. I usually close at noon though so I don't have to feed kids lunch. If any parents question it then just be honest and say your flight couldn't be book any other time. People will understand.

Since I've just started, I'm still getting used to the whole business side of things. Haha. I'm a people pleaser and don't like to inconvenience people.

Thanks for the advice! I'll let them know this afternoon. :)

I agree with Mickyc, a month is plenty of notice and it's perfectly understandable as to why you need this extra day off.

I am sure most parents won't have a big problem with it.

I understand you don't want to inconvenience them but unfortunately, hdcp's don't have many choices other than to inconvenience the parents from time to time when we want/need days off. Parents choosing hdc's should fully understand this and if it's an issue for them than they need to go a centre IMO.

Enjoy your trip!!
