This Coalition was started recently by three Ottawa providers who felt a need to educate the public and government about Bill 10 and it's imminent negative effects on childcare, home daycares and children, despite Kathleen Wynne's assertion that it is in the name of safety and accessibility.
In a little over a month, we have over 600 members on our FB page, Coalition of Independent Childcare Providers of Ontario, with Team Leads in 14 cities across Ontario. We are planning a Provincial Day of Action as a means of garnering media attention to Independent Providers and how this will impact us. The more parents and providers that attend this day and join our cause, the more the government will have to take notice and include us more adequately in this Bill. Please consider joining and if you dont' already know about Bill 10, you can learn more at http://whatisbill10.weebly. com/

I know you have a reference Kimangeline, and I am interested in the material but it looks quite lengthy. Could you please tell us in a sentence or two what this bill is about? I don't know about other ladies, but right now my life is quite busy with my daycare, other work and alot of projects around my home that's slated for this summer. Thanks.

Hi JoyShop...in short, if you are an independent provider ( not with an agency), the Bill proposes changing the ratios to 5 children under 13, with only 2 under 2 and you count your own children under 6. While this may seem fair to some on the surface, and the Ministry says it is in the name of 'safety and accessibility", it is going to make running a home daycare NOT viable, financially. The flip side is that an AGENCY provider will be allowed 6 children with the same ratios and will be allowed to partner with another agency provider to have up to 12 children between them. There will also be a Ministry appointed Director who will have the power to WAIVE the 2 under 2 for an agency provider. The reason we are so opposed is because of the blatant disregard for, and bias against, the Independent providers who care for up to 80% of children currently in care in Ontario. That's the short, nutshell version..please feel free to ask any other questions! thanks for asking!
