I'm so worried about one of my DCM's. she is one of my favourite DCM's. In fact they are a great family. She is 7.5months pregnant. Today at pick up DCD told me that she went to Hospital as she was diagnosed with chicken pox. This is the first I heard of it as I chatted by text to DCM earlier regarding her son biting :(

DCD and I were discussing strategies re: biting and then he told me the news of DCM. They are giving her a shot to help reduce the effects of the chicken pox virus. He asked me if any of the kids at daycare or my own have it. I told him that I would have mentioned it right away if that was the case as DCM is pregnant and never had the chicken pox virus before. That all the kids are vaccinated, including my eldest, but that none of the children are exhibiting any signs of chicken pox. He told me to mention it to the parents so they can watch for symptoms. Since it's Monday at the beginning of the week, I too will be able to watch and see if any of my DC kiddos come down with symptoms.

Does anyone have experience with pregnancy and chicken pox? DCD was very concerned for baby :(

DCM works in the film industry and is in contact with many, many people, but of course, their first thought would go that she contracted it from daycare  But even the off chance that she did...wouldn't any of the children already exhibited symptoms?

Being Monday and the fact that it is contagious for 2days before the rash I would think it is unlikely it came from the daycare...as the kids were all home 2 days and came today with no rash.

My understanding is that the baby is most at risk during the first 20weeks of pregnancy. Being 7.5months along would mean she is past the most worrisome stage so baby should be ok. Chicken pox can cause birth defects, but since the that happens in the first half of pregnancy baby is at less risk. Now baby is growing bigger and stronger so the chicken pox likely wouldn't cause long lasting effects.

All that said, when pregnant EVERYTHING can cause fear in new mom and dad so they must be incredibly worried :-(

Hopefully none of your kiddos catch it.

Thanks Lee-Bee, that was my thinking as well. I remember the anxiety during all 3 of my pregnancies. Catching Chicken Pox must be causing them so much angst! I figured if she caught it here, one of my daycare kiddos or my own kids would have shown symptoms days ago!
