My daughter is having her first b-day with friends next month. Our place is small but also I don't know if I really want to entertain all the parents of these kids as well. We went to a birthday on the weekend and they expected the parents to stick around. This was fine but I guess I was surprised as the kids are all 5 yrs old (I thought this was a more preschool thing).

1) Is this common still for school aged kids?

2) How do I word things in the invite so they just leave their kids with me?

None of the parents really know me as my daughter is in B&A care but I met a couple of the parents this weekend at the b-day party whose child will be invited.

We just had my daughter's party yesterday. Most parents did not stay, only a few asked if they could. From our experience it is pretty common for parents to drop their kids off and come back at the end of the party to pick them up. Maybe you could say something along the lines of "Please leave me a contact number when you drop _______ at the party" I would think a lot of parents would be happy to have a couple of hours to themselves.

You could also just indicate the drop-off and pick-up times on the invitation.

Bobbie's 6th Birthday Party
123 My Street
Drop-off at 3 pm
Pick-up at 5 pm

That's just so much simpler than my suggestion!
