Omg!!!

So this morning I had a new 2yr old DCB start..... everything was fine for the first 15 minutes.... as soon as the mom snuck out (grabbed her boots and pretty much jumped outside my door lol) I knew as soon as I turned around all h3ll would break loose....and it did!!! lol
He has been crying since 830.. it is now 1125 and I'm pretty sure nap time wont be happening either. I tried picking him up and he smacked me in the face, throwing himself on the ground screaming, throwing toys around and pushing me away saying no.
I know we all bound to have this issue but this is a first for me!!
How did you handle it? :ohmy:

Patience. Step away and ignore him give him space. Do something like dancing singing with the other kids and say loud to him. U are ok. Come play with us when u are ready. Let him watch u guys have fun. But don't take his hand to come. Let him come on his own time.

The only thing to do really is to just leave him. Especially if he doesn't seem to like being consoled....not much else you can do. Reassure him verbally, go on with your day as best you can. At naptime, leave him even if cries, checking on him and reassuring him every 15 mins or so. I know it's tough though, hang in there!

Yes, patience. Has he been in daycare before? This might be a factor. I have had that exact situation. He was 26mo, never been in daycare, never away from mom but by the end of the first week, it was like he'd always been here.

The mom sneaking out is not something I recomend. Leaving soon after dropping off, yes, but the sneaking out could feel like abandoning. She should say good bye and as hard as it will be for her to watch him cry, I believe it is the best thing for him.

Yup, sounds about right. I have a couch under the big front window facing the road and also a big window in my front door. The bigger kids go to the couch to wave and if it's possible to pick them up, crying or not I hold the babies up at the door to wave goodbye. It is part of our routine that all kids wave good bye to everybody. (Even the mailman) Its not required, but a nice habit. "Bye, Johnny"s mommy!" "Bye, Annie's daddy!"

He comes to me, puts his hands up to be picked up so I pick him up and he stops crying. As soon as I put him down he is okay for 5 mins then goes back to crying.

He just fell asleep on the floor lol I gave him a nap mat with his blanket, he threw the blanket and rolled off the mat!

All great advice, for new starters, I try not to soothe them too much, it may become habitual and they need to learn that we will not be carrying them all day long. Sounds like you are doing great and he is slowly calming down! I agree with tehe advice of making mom say goodbye. I have found with nnew little ones, a playpen in the main area with a few toys may help. He will feel secure and can see everything going on around him. Although at 2 he may be a little old for this, I've tried this with 12month olds usually and seems to help.

Don't you love newbies, you never know, what will be the outcome, patients. It will get better soon :)
