Hi All,

I need to produce receipts for the first family to leave my care.
Do I have to produce receipts for each payment or can I just provide one receipt per child with their 'portion' of the fees paid for the past 3 1/2 months? Or do I need to detail the dates etc. of amounts received?

I know I need to include my business name, address, the child's details and address and dates of care.

Also, can I write the receipt out to both parents or does it have to be just one?

Many thanks :)

From the CRA, this booklet has a sample of what needs to be in a receipt. One receipt for all money paid to you is all you need. I would separate the children and list their individual costs and then the total. The receipt should be for the parent who paid you, but if you're not sure, you could write both parent's names on it. I make my own receipts on special paper that comes in the 3 colors so I can make duplicates and give the parents two copies. But since e-filing came in, I don't know if that's even necessary anymore.

ALthough not need receipt to e-file, CRA will randomly contact people claiming child care costs and ask for copy of receipt as proof of claim. So yes, they still need receipt.

Yes, you're right, I meant necessary to give two copies. Also, it's easier for people to make their own copies now, too. My printer isn't fancy but it scans, prints and does photocopies. I just like using the carbon paper. I have a whole bunch of forms printed off that are ready to fill out and I fill them out by hand when the time comes.
