Hi all,
Just wanted to check in as too what you have planned for today. We are going to the splash pad this afternoon but I don't have anything planned this am. Usually we play outside, bake or do crafts but I don't know if it's the weather or fatigue but I don't have any imagination today haha.
Send me some ideas please ! :)

It raining here for last two week. But air is humid. We set up obstacle course in barn so at least can run around in dry.

It's brutal here with the humidity and too hot to take kids out, even at 9am this morning. I wanted to go for a walk, but we have opted for indoor gross motor play instead. Simon Says and a dance party :-)

Thanks ladies ! We opted for crafts first. We started making monsters or princesses and then we also had a dance party then early nap so we can have more fun at the splash pad.

It's been crazy heat alert hot here this week. We have still been going out but for shorter periods. We were out this morning for only an hour. I usually give one of them the hose with the nozzle set to "mist" and they get pretty cool that way. We did water balloons yesterday and today they just kind of ran around. We baked before we went outside. I don't like to bake a lot in the summer but we have air conditioning and it allowed us to make tomorrow's am snack.

It's cool and windy here. We had the heat Monday as well as last week and the week before. Lots of pool time! We go out no matter what the temp.
It's HOT in BC since May with a lot of forest fires galore
we are out running around but drinking lots of water
We are not use to this heat

I've been on holidays for a week and a half and don't go back until next week so I've been enjoying the sun but also loving the ac!! Lol
Have you seen on fb the dc that stayed out too long in the heat and didn't put sunscreen on 2 kids?!? Terrible!!
I'm a sun safe dc so when it's too hot we stay in and do things like glow sticks and tents, hallway bowling, target on the floor and slide things onto it, art, sand play etc. going to have to get out of holiday mode this weekend and plan some indoor activities for backup!

GLOW STICK !! I haven't done that in a while !! Thanks five lillte Monkeys.
I did see that on facebook. HORRIBLE !! I did not read the entire story but seriously I don't know how this is could happen. We go out everyday too. We just have to be careful. We NEVER go out without sunscreen, we get plenty of water (sometimes frozen treats too haha). I have some good shade in my backyard and that's were we play most. We also play with water games and the slip and slide BIG FUN for my school age kids and for the smaller kids I just push them down they love it. We just go out early in the day. I'm often already outside when they arrive.

You're welcome!
I'm not a morning person so I'm not outside at 730 lol but yes, we do the same! On the really hot days were out from 9-1030. The pool is a favourite and we do that in the morning too. Afternoon is a bit trickier as I have kids who leave a fair bit earlier than my others so usually my last 1-2 kids and I come in after they leave so they can cool down. I've heard August is supposed to be a bit cooler so that should help :)
It did sound a bit fishy because there were 7 kids on the outing and the other 5 kids were fine just these 2 brothers were sent to Hosp with 2nd degree sunburn, the daycare had to close and the police have being called in to check on the situation, it does not sound too good at all. Poor kids,
there is even a fund set up to help pay for the hosp.
We have lots of shade in the morning so we can be out in the back yard but stay in after nap

My rule is the parents are to apply sunscreen before arriving and we go out first thing in the morning. I don't ask if they did or didn't and just assume . We are out from 7:30 to 9:00 so in the grand scheme of things likely ok without it anyways but the fact they are brothers does make you wonder. I reapply after nap when we go outside again. They may have started putting it on each other and no one checked to be sure they actually got it in all the right places.

I live in the lower mainland as well and yes it has been a scorcher of a summer! I have a smaller yard within my large yard (I get lots of mushrooms in the fall so we stay in the smaller yard when it becomes a problem). We have been going in my small yard in the morning and the large yard in the afternoon since we're lucky to have a large shaded area when it's the hottest. We've been playing in the water table, drinking lots of ice water and of course having cold treats.

I'm not entirely sure who was responsible for supplying sunscreen but IMO, the dc is responsible for them and should have ensured they had it. If they ran out (like the 2nd article suggests) than the trip should have been over. How (or did they?) did they reapply during the day? If another child had sunscreen than why not share?!?
They had other issues before and have been closed down for now!
(Sorry to go off topic!!)
