Hi there,
I have had a parent request that I prepare a letter for him with my name, phone number, and all the dates his children were in my care. He says the Canadian Revenue Agency has requested this. I give receipts in January of each year (for the previous year) of course, and have never encountered this before. It doesn't make much sense to me as the information he is requesting is only from 2015, and I don't know how the CRA would already have his tax information. It certainly isn't my business, however I did want to see if any other ladies had thoughts on the topic.
{ I have had some challenges with this parent in the past. He called me today, on my off day, demanding the letter ASAP. I said of course, I would have it to him, signed, for the second day of the week (when he brings his child). His response was that he needed it Monday and I need to scan it to him. I suppose this part is separate from the issue however, and more of an issue with his manners.}
I'm very confused by his request and just want reassurance that other people have had to prepare letters such as this before.
Thank you!

The information he is asking you to provide isn't anything that wouldn't already be listed on his receipt. I would provide the info when you can and ignore the issue with his manners. He may be stressed out if he is being audited or something. Cut him some slack and give the letter.

Weird. I can assume if he is being audited he is stressed and therefore is being a tad rude (still not acceptable but perhaps understandable).
I am not sure what all he is asking for. His receipt should note the period of care (start date through end date)...but not each day he was in attendance.

I had a parent audited previously before, and they gave me the copy of the CRA letter requesting specific dates that the child had been in care(I had to go back through 2 years of attendance files, and this child was no longer in my care) What a pain in the ***! This parent was being scrutinized over child tax benefits or something of that nature. Ask to see the letter. I don't doubt that it's true. Then the CRA phoned me personally to verify that it was actually me who sent the letter(making sure the parent hadn't fabricated it themselves) They were very thorough!

This standard information needed if someone being look at by CRA. They write quite stern letter which can be scary but it computer generated. Sound like he have one of these. The letter has firm deadline and it say that if he fail produce proof they want, they will recalculate family tax credit and he be liable to repay any over payment. He likely just worried and trying get all paperwork they demanding to them as quick as possible.
He really does need what he asked for and the window for him to get information to CRA is normal quite short which why he wants ASAP.

I received that letter too. If you don't send all the documents that they have asked for they can stop your benefits. So I guess he is a little bit stress out and in a hurry??

If he is being audited...it won't be for 2015.....it would be for a previous year....why wouldn't he just be honest and let you know instead of being RUDE....

This is what I found confusing. Can someone be audited for 2015 already?

I would tell him I needed a copy of the letter for your files, since I was writing the letter I want proof as to why in my records, I would also keep a copy of my letter with it. I would also tell him that I was not obligated to write this letter, and if he wants it he will have to apologize for how he spoke to me. I will not allow him to get away with speaking so rudely to me, I don't care if he has a time limit to get the forms in or not. No apology, no letter.

Personally, I don't see what the big deal is. The things he's requesting aren't anything that he shouldn't have. Obviously we didn't hear his tone but I can certainly understand why he'd want it ASAP and would be stressed. It doesn't make it right but I know that I sometimes crumble under stress too. Some people just don't have good social manners but mean no harm or offence
I don't know if he'd be audited already but if he's filed already I guess it's possible!

He is not being audited. This is to update his information for childcare benefits. Such as change of marital status, address, custody, etc. If you child is not in school yet they asked you to either get a letter from the family doctor, daycare provider or anyone who can prove that the children still live in that household.

Thanks so much! I appreciate it. I figured it wasn't a big deal, just was confused about the "deadline".

I would still ACKNOWLEDGE the way he spoke to me...and that I won't tolerate that!

I had a mom that just started with me in September get a letter from CRA needing proof of her child. She typed up the letter from me and I just signed it. It was very ridiculous actually. She showed me the letter she got and the letter I signed just stated that her daughter is in my care, her age etc.
Yes I had a request for a letter like that from a parent and in another case where the CRA called me to verify all the dates and info of the child .....so it is very stressful to receive a letter like that with deadlines ........he is worried so I would ignore his tone
