I'm considering starting child care in my home and have been looking into liability insurance. I have contacted 2 insurance companies and each one has stated I do not quality for a commercial liability on my home since I have a family pet (2 year old boxer/pug - maybe 40lbs).

Any one have this issue? who is your insurance through if you have a pet and home day care?

I have a 75lb dog, a cat and 8 chickens, pets weren't the problem for me. I had to get a broker to find a company that would allow me to keep my pool though! I'm with Portage.

Thanks. I've decided to go through a broker myself in hopes I can find one. I completely forgot about my pool. Although mine is one of those take down ones. I will ask about that too.

Someone in Ontario will probably help more, but consider the difference between business liability and a rider on your existing homeowner's insurance. That would be for a business like home daycare. I'm sure the broker could help with that too.

State Farm Insurance will insure you in Ontario with pets and a pool. I called as recent as the beginning of June to confirm with my agent.

Thanks everyone for your suggestions.. I went through an insurance broker and finally found insurance that will cover and is reasonable. Had to switch insurance company's but it worked out better in the end.

Which company ended up covering you?
