Hello,

I was wondering if you ever considered using or ever used a caterer for your daycare?
I know it saves time, but do you think the meals are as good and as nutritious as the ones you would prepare yourself ?

Amount of money available in home daycare wouldn't warrant the catered meals. Buying food in bulk, sharing batch cooking with family meals works well. Big issue is since we deal with so few at a time it is much easier to cater to likes and dislikes and appetites which catering does not allow.

I have used a catering service that specialized in day cares only in the past and I have to say there were advantages and disadvantages.
At the time I had a group of 3.5-5 year olds and they ate a lot so often I had to make a double batch when I made supper and it got quite expensive since I am a little ... ok very picky on what I eat and I cook a lot of food the daycare kids just refused to eat.I hate , hate cooking as well lol I enjoy making exotic meals and that's it ( and no one else but me likes them lol)
So I used a catering service every day for about a year. I loved how the food was delivered to my door every morning so I never had to worry about cooking! Snacks were included so I never had to do any meal planning at all.
I loved how using a catering service was 100 % deductible while only a % of my groceries are.
I also found it less insulting of the kids didn't like the meals lol and I didn't feel as bad if I had to throw some out at the end of the vs having to throw out a meal I slaved over LOL (if that even makes senses lol) The catering service I used was great. The meals were salt free, nut free, all home made ,lots of variety etc.
I didn't like is there were some snacks I didn't agree with and just served something else instead.. this only happened once a month or so. I didn;t like how bland some of the meals and veggies were but I think that's just me, the kids seemed to enjoy it in general.
So over all I really enjoyed using a caterer
I did not like however that it used to cost me about $450 a month or so. I don't know if that's a lot or not but I do know that it was costing me the same thing when I made my meals for the daycare myself.
Now I have a group that eats soooooo little so it just isn't worth it anymore. I just serve the leftovers from the night before and voila !

We had a recent situation in Ottawa where a catering company that dealt with daycare centres and schools served contaminated foods and several children got sick and had to be hospitalized. Apparantly some of the food they were serving came in from Toronto and was not kept at the right temperature while in transport as well as issues of how it was handled once it reached Ottawa.

I prefer to plan my own menus. For anyone that wants a similar system they should look into weekend batch freezer cooking. There are several websites with great ideas to save time in cooking.

The day care bear is an excellent option for all those people who are seeking quality food service for their toddlers during day time. Every parent wishes for a good health for his or her kids. Most of the people who reside in any of the locations in the Greater Toronto Area, are not having sufficient time to prepare tasty and healthy food for their toddlers. Therefore, for them such an option is a good one

My guess is this is a SPAM BOT and not a real person at the end of the keyboard at all ... first brand new member with 1 post, second the message makes no sense at all in the context of this thread and the 'link' in the signature is HIDDEN to imply it will take you to an Italian Catering which is 'similar' to the topic in this thread but will likely take members to porn or some other hostile site that will attack the user with a virus!

Actually Pane-Vino is a catering company in Toronto and i'll bet the link takes you to their website. I find it weird that the admin started this thread and this company jumped right in. Is this veiled advertising? Not cool.

Oh good to know ~ but agreed even if it is not a 'hostile spammer' it is still SPAM ...aka poor form of unsolicited advertizing designed ... the post appears to be written by an automatic program sent online to scope out the 'keywords' and post a response and link to get people to learn about their business ~ personally I would never click on a link like that from a source I could not trust ... everything about the post screams spam and beware and well I do not understand businesses who choose to 'advertize' that way cause it is not a way to build a trusting relationship with a customer at ALL :(
