Hi, I've just filed my taxes and my accountant is telling me that if I make over $30,000, I may need to get an HST account #. I only made about $10,000 last year, but now I'm full. Should I be charging the parents HST? Anyone been through this?

according to the link I provided child care services are exempt from collecting/paying GST/HST:
•child care services (daycare services for less than 24 hours a day) for children 14 years old and younger.

I would be concerned that your accountant doesn't know this already.
That would be a pretty big red flag to me that you need to find an accountant that has experience with home daycares or can at least read up on it! Home daycare is exempt from taxes.
By having an accountant that is not aware of this means you are likely using an accountant that is likely missing many other key factors that would help you come tax time!!
My first accountant said the same thing to me and then I was set straight on this forum. I found a new accountant.
Great advice! I was so worried I'd lose all my dck! Looks like I need to lose my accountant! :)
