    Baby Swings

    Okay, very off topic...
At what age do you stop using a baby swing (indoor with mobiles etc)?
I stopped using my swing for my kids around 7-8 months, when they could sit up by themselves and play.

I'm with you. My own little monsters were sitting up and grabbing at the mobile by 10 months each. What would possess a parent to put a kid that old into something meant for immobile babies?!?!?!?!?!?

Umm - ya no clue cause I do not have them because I assumed that they had a 'weight recommendation' that would be exceeded by most 1 year olds entering my program so they are something that takes up too much storage space in comparison to their worth so to speak?

I agree with Errbear that as soon as they can 'sit up' in the thing that it becomes dangerous because it will change the centre of gravity they are designed for and the thing could topple and injury the child.

Did the parents provide the swing or do you own it? Or is this just happening at home with the child?

I would not use the swing, that is getting to be quite old....

    Good luck!!

Oh this is done at home. I would never agree to that for a child this age.

I have a baby swing and I stop using it when the child is probably 6-7 months old or whenever they can sit and crawl and move around on their own. One reason I like to use the swing is to put the baby to sleep or get them drowsy at least and also to keep them safer when they are really tiny from the children running around the room.

Yeah, pretty sure that if a baby leaned forward and put a one year old weight behind that lean, it'd tip the baby swing when it was swinging forward. Dangerous.

Generally they are rated for 20 lbs ....I had a dcg who at 16 months was still only 19 lbs so could have used it. So if the child is really tiny then whatever but if the child is average size then the parent is endangering the child and it doesn't encourage activity to burn off energy .... It's just sounds like the parent taking the lazy way out. as we all know most parents do whatever it takes to make sure they have a calm stress free evening after their long day at work ; )

Aw, you edited and I missed the original post.... Hate it when that happens.
Agreed, though; as soon as they can sit on their own, and especially when they start moving around via crawling/creeping, the swing starts getting dusty.
My littlest is almost 7 months and the only time we use it now is to provide her a bit of a different viewpoint than the bouncy seat or excersaucer. Usually she's on the floor (she's inches away from crawling, and *dang*, I forgot what a pain that is!! lol), but I don't like to have her there when the dog is in the house. She's still too little for me to feel comfortable with that, since our dog is around 100 lbs!

If memory serves she only edited out potentially identifying information about the child who prompted the question...nothing to change the tone of the post too much
