We were out briefl today, but it was really cold with the wind chill and we are no longer used to it...in winter we'd have gone out and thought it was a decent day, but after having gotten used to a bit of warmth, it shocks the body a bit! And of course, some parents have forgotten to pack hats, mittens, etc. I get what Reggio is saying, but if the parents are anything like me, they didn't even realize it was that cold until they got outside...although I guess that would have been the time to run back in and grab some warm things. We tried to go to the library, but it never occurred to me that it would not be open until 1pm on Fridays! So, I had to haul 5 crying kids in the freezing wind back to the car and regoup...not a good morning for me

LOL - I know and it FEELS so much colder after having been 20 degrees as well ... however I need outside time for my sanity - they sleep deeper and longer at quiet time when they've been outside even if it is just 30 minutes!
Children construct their own intelligence. The adult must provide activities and context, but most of all must be able to listen. Children need proof that adults believe in them. Their three great desires are to be listened to, to understand, and to demonstrate that they are exactly what we expect."

We went out on Monday and the wind ended up being 70 km/hr and we couldn't get home! I felt completely helpless in the situation and learned a valuable lesson. Don't just check the rain/snow/temp, check the wind speed before going out!
