    Falling aslepp

    Hello!

I have a new child about 1 yr old who can't make it to nap at 12 (not always). I am just wondering if I should let him have a short morning nap so they can then make it to have nap with the other children. I need a break in the day where ALL children are resting. When I let him fall asleep who knows when that will be?!

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

It really all depends on when he wakes up in the morning and what time he arrives at daycare. If he still needs a morning nap, then I would give him a 1/2 or so around 8-8:30 so that he will be ready for nap at 12.
    Good luck.

I would definitely give him a morning nap. I have three 17-18 month olds who still need a morning nap to make it through until 1pm when we have afternoon nap...if I don't give them 45 minutes in the mornign they are tired and grumpy and fall asleep in their lunches or on the wya home from the park in the stroller etc. An overtired baby is not a good thing!

I too have a little one that needs a short morning nap. She arrives at daycare at 6:45 so is up quite early. I put her down for one hour in the morning usually from 8-9 and then she gies down in the afternoon with all the rest if the kids.

Yup ~ my youngest still needs a catnap in the morning ~ I aim to have it so he is back up 9:30 at the latest and that way he can make it lunch and than goes down again at 1 ~ 3:30 ish.

What was his routine for a morning nap before starting daycare? That would probably give you an idea about his sleep patterns. My babies who start with me usually around 10 months of age drop their morning naps really quickly because they are having so much fun. But if we are travelling they sometimes nap for a short time in the stroller.

When my babies drop their morning naps I feed them lunch at 11 and get them into bed by 12:30. However, if your nap schedule is more like 1-1:30 before you get your group into bed then I'd let him have his morning snooze. It's all depends on your routines. I can be flexible by just nudging the times of things about 10 minutes every couple of days until the children become slowly accustomed to the new way so that all of the children are comfortable.

When I had an older group of all ages 3 & 4 we had the later lunch and later naps, but now that I have babies again we have the earlier lunch and the earlier naps for their sake and the 4 year olds have adjusted. Children can't tell time at this age, so if you do it slowly, their bodies adjust.

Yes, I saw that you said he was new. That's why I think if you ask the Mom about his schedule prior to starting daycare you should stick to that for now and make the adjustments slowly as I mentioned until you have him on your wake/sleep schedules. Wishing you the best of luck. It always works great for me when I do this.

A few tips...

Always ensure that your child receives quality care by taking the time to investigate the provider and by asking for references! We simply cannot verify the claims of every daycare provider.
