Tattoos- good or bad?
I am about to open a daycare and have had only 2 interviews- both did not choose to go with my daycare.
I'm just wondering if my tattoos would be a drawback- do people still judge others like that? Would you be afraid to leave your kids with me?
I have several tattoos on my arms and one on my chest and am wondering if I should cover them up - easier said than done in the summer!
Any input would be great!

I am going to be honest here ~ I do not have any tattoos myself to form a personal philosophy on them because I have skin condition that would make tattooing a risk .... however my initial reaction is I would not WANT to work with someone who had an issue over this anyway .... I am who I am and if my 'appearance' is going to be a deal breaker for people well than they do not share my core values or the core values I want to instill in my program .... acceptance of diversity
Keep looking for the clients you WANT and do not settle for less by hiding or compromising who you are!
Children construct their own intelligence. The adult must provide activities and context, but most of all must be able to listen. Children need proof that adults believe in them. Their three great desires are to be listened to, to understand, and to demonstrate that they are exactly what we expect."

Starting to feel at home...
I wouldn't jump to that conclusion after only two interviews. However, yes, there are always going to be people who judge! You likely don't want to deal with those parents! Best of luck to you.

its depends what the tatoos depict. Beautiful tatoos with positive scenes - no problem, scary and disturbing - no thank you.

Yes so true Mimi ~ if the images are not of a PG nature than while working with children I would cover them up ... this was the rule in centre care as well .... tattoos and piercings that were 'visible' to clientele had to be 'safe' and 'PG' .... aka no blood, guts, skulls, weapons, violent depictions, swear words, etc. Girls who had those 'chain' piercings had to remove the chain at work and replace with a small 'stud' to prevent catching on anything.

They're PG and my kids love 'em!

Expansive...
Oh, please, if someone is not choosing your care simply due to your having a tattoo or two or three then they really aren't worth the time you spend thinking about them. Seriously, people need to stop judging by appearances.

I have tattoos. I think they are beautiful and so do the families I work with. Take 'em or leave 'em they're part of me!

I have tattoos too...5 to be exact...and I'm getting 1 of them redone to cover half my back. I've never had any issues with my tattoos being a deal breaker and if people didn't choose my daycare because of them...they can kiss my arse and I wouldn't of wanted them in my daycare anyway.

I don't have any tattoos either but I see nothing wrong with them at all. Two of my daughters have several of them and one of my clients, both Mom & Dad are inked up all over. My sister just got her first tattoos in her 50's! It's never too late.
I agree that it is just terrible for people to judge based on appearances rather than seeing everything you have to offer in your daycare. My problem with cosmetics is the outside of my home which is a rental apartment at the back of a big house and no yard. I know now as soon as the 'snobs' arrive because I can see it on their faces when they step out of their car. Don't waste your time if you spot it too hmk. I'm sure you are beautiful! However, I always dress professionally for an interview, no matter what the season. If you do decide to cover up, just dress nicely and don't worry about anything else. Chin up!
