Anyone else have a little one who is always sick?

I have a 3 yrs old dcg who I swear is ALWAYS sick! She is also the little one I have mentioned before who was a terrible eater (McD's and dry cereal at home...though according to Mom this IS getting much better), but is now eating wonderful for me.

Anyways, back to my point. This girl is constantly sick!!! I've sent her home with illnesses 3 times since May (fever, diarrhea), but inbetween these times she seems to be sick with cold symptoms constantly. She may get a week long break in between colds before she's at it again. Constant runny nose, terrible coughs. It doesn't effect her play, but the worst of her colds always make their way through everyone so it's just annoying!

Anyone else have a constant colder?

I sure did have one of these. She was sick the entire 18 months she was here. Always coughing and a runny nose, always on antibiotics. Brought in fifths disease, the flu and constant colds. Made everyone sick! Mom would drop her off to me saying she was up all night coughing and that mom was going to stay at grandmas and sleep all day but sent her kid to daycare anyways. Very frustrating. She has since left care and its been such a relief not to have to worry about what disease she would bring in next!

I got real tired real fast when I first opened with having the illnesses throughout what seemed on a regular basis. I am a big vitamin pusher, so...I educate ALL the kids at an early age the importance of eating healthy and taking vitamins. Send home info and facts regarding the use of vitamins and healthy eating, so far it works like a charm, by the end I have all the kids taking their vitamins at home, every time they would go to the grocery store with mom they would ask and ask and ask until Mommy gave in, they all take multi's and (d-3 at my house) I will give a child a vitamin if they ask for it, they usually come in my door saying, "i didnt get my vitamin today" or "we are out of vitamins at home" I love it, they are my little health robots. We also talk about the foods that are "good for you" and the foods that are "bad for you", then they go home and educate their parents.
Good news about your little "sicky", she will be strong as an ox by the time she goes to school! not such good news for you, but good for her.

Yes, I had one girl like that too. I think their immune systems get so run down that every germ attacks them. I had the same problem last winter and I finally went to my doctor, which is completely against my nature, and asked him for ANYTHING AND EVERYTHING to heal me once and for all! He gave me Nasonex & an inhaler because I was starting to feel like I couldn't even breathe any more.

Can you talk to the parents about immune boosters, healthy eating and helping their child to feel better? It kind of sounds like you have had some of these conversations.

I'm glad she is getting a lot more healthy food here than at home. She's also 3, but has never been in a daycare environment (just cared for by relatives), so I think that regular viruses that the rest of the group are able to fight off, she just can't! I'm hoping after a year here she starts to be able to fight some of these off!
