Yeah, the child would need to be able to communicate in some way that he has to poop or pee and be able to at least make some effort in being able to get his own pants off and on. I think your initial reaction of telling them you will not try it until he has been dry at home for a couple of weeks, is correct. I would also tell them he needs to be able to stay dry for periods of time (at least 1.5 hours at a time) as you can't take him every hour. If he is actually full trained at home and able to communicate, I would give it a try, but would make sure to let the parents know it is different at daycare and he may not do as well. I had an 18 month old who was trained at home and able to communicate very well, but I had a really hard time with her...she would refuse to use the toilet and then pee on the floor etc. But that was her personality...it did make me a bit hesitant to start training too early though...parents may be ready, but is the child really ready?
