Starting to feel at home...
End date coming up
So I have one dc family that's moving away and I'm really looking forward to their last day which is at the end of this month. They have really early drop offs and I'm so looking forward to being done with that and being done with a bunch of other small things that having been bugging me. But I'm hanging with it because I know the end is near. (7 days, but who's counting? )The thing is, I have a bad feeling the mom is going to ask for an extension of at least a week. I really don't want to keep dcg for any longer past her official last day. If she does ask for the extension, how can I just tell her no? I don't have a good reason other than I just really don't want to! And I don't want to lie but I don't want to hurt her feelings either. Thoughts?

Be honest. You made plans based on her finish date so you are no longer able to accomodate her. You don't need to explain it more in depth than that. I beat myself up everyday over other peoples feelings, but they don't think about it that way toward you. Your opening hours are later after the date she gave you so sorry, no can do. Thats what I would be saying.

I agree with Brights ... no need to tell her WHY just that you wish you could help but it is not going to work.
Something like 'oh I am really sorry but in anticipation in X's last day giving me lower numbers for a while I have decided to take advantage of that and made field trip / outing plans for the program that week that will not accommodate having an extra child in tow." .... this would be the truth for me because when I know I am going to be low I tend to plan some of the bigger awesome venues available in my home town for a 'treat'.
Children construct their own intelligence. The adult must provide activities and context, but most of all must be able to listen. Children need proof that adults believe in them. Their three great desires are to be listened to, to understand, and to demonstrate that they are exactly what we expect."

Thanks guys! I'm going to be honest and just say I can't and leave it at that. Makes me feel better already!

Of course the other option is to give in and do the extra week but then take the entire amount paid and spend it on YOU!

I understand because I started work at 7am for 4 years and now I start at 8am. When somebody needs an occasional 7:30 start I'm groaning, hehe.
