    Tax question

For those of us who do not get paid if we take a sick day, can we claim the lost earnings as a business loss?

No because you claim according to the number of days in the year that you actually did daycare so if you were closed for a vacation or mat leave or just for a break then you would base everything on the days you were open. On the other side of the coin if I am open but no one comes due to illness and I am paid for the day then I do claim that day in my totals.

I agree with Playfelt ... as much as it sucks it is not technically a 'loss' being 'self employed' time off is supposed to be factored into our 'fees' ... which can sometimes be a challenge to set aside money for those times which is why I ended up opting to have two fee options ... one that is a lower weekly fee but includes 10 paid personal days over the year where if I am closed they still pay me ... forced savings on my part to just make due with less and easier budgeting on their end of the consistent payment each week regardless.
Children construct their own intelligence. The adult must provide activities and context, but most of all must be able to listen. Children need proof that adults believe in them. Their three great desires are to be listened to, to understand, and to demonstrate that they are exactly what we expect."

A few tips...

Always ensure that your child receives quality care by taking the time to investigate the provider and by asking for references! We simply cannot verify the claims of every daycare provider.
