When to open gift from parents?

When do you open a gift that a parent /family gives to you? Do you open while they are still at your house? Do you wait till Christmas Day?

I always just 'ask' would you like me to open it now or put it under the tree for Christmas morning cause well some people like to 'see' the gift being open and I like to respect that and others want you to have a surprise for Christmas morning ... most of the time the kids are standing right there and they are jumping up and down open it now
Children construct their own intelligence. The adult must provide activities and context, but most of all must be able to listen. Children need proof that adults believe in them. Their three great desires are to be listened to, to understand, and to demonstrate that they are exactly what we expect."

I wait till they are gone and then do it in front of the group. The child is always excited - if old enough about it and often has no idea what is in there either so to them it is a present they want to see too.

DITTO, this is exactly what I do, then I can thank them at the end of the day.

I ask when they want me to open it. If they state they don't care, I open it up! I can't wait that long! lol
