Sleep and Poop

I have a little guy who consistently poops during nap time. This isn't an issue as I have another one that always has a surprise for me at the end of nap too... but... Child 1 wakes up every day after an hour crying like someone is sawing off his arm. Some days I go tell him it's still quiet time and he settles and goes to sleep and some days I let him cry it out. The cry isn't a "come and get me" cry. It's pain. I was origionally thinking nightmare... night terror's but now I think it's pain in his belly as he poops within 20 min after.

Anyone else have this problem? I'm wondering if it's a milk intolerance.

Ugh! I have a little guy who wakes up in the middle of naptime screaming like he's dying too, but it's because he already pooped. I change him and he won't stop screaming, expecting that naptime is over. Thank goodness the other children are sound sleepers. The days he sleeps two hours before he poops are delightful.

I had a little boy start over a year ago who screamed all day every day and even though he was 1 year old his poop was yellow and the consistency of a newborn's. He was in pain. I mentioned to the parents that the poop concerned me but they said the doctor said it was fine. Then I asked them if they thought of food allergies like lactose or gluten and the Dad told me he was lactose intolerant. Headsmack. Still the doctor said, oh no he's fine. After 3 months of this or so I was ready to quit on them and they decided to try lactose free products. Well, guess what, he stopped screaming and his poops changed. Headsmack!

After 3 months of this or so I was ready to quit on them and they decided to try lactose free products. Well, guess what, he stopped screaming and his poops changed. Headsmack!

Wow, they KNEW he was lactose intolerant, and it took them that long to change his diet?! His poor little belly!

Oh no, sorry about my bad syntax!!! The DAD is lactose intolerant but they didn't even think of it for the son until I insisted on trying something or quit.

Ugh...I am going through something similar. I have a 22 month old in my care who has started pooping 3-4 times per day and sometimes very much like diahrea...it has been going on for months and parents say they don't want to take him to a doctor as he will just suggest eminating foods. They think it is normal and just shrug their shoulders "he just poops a lot". I have tried so many times to say that it does not seem normal. He is also very grumpy and did not used to be...wakes up during naptime...cries over little things. Finally they are trying lactose free with him to see...forgot to tell me, but now that I know I am not giving him dairy either...today was day one and he only pooped once. I will wait a few days to see if it is a coincidence, but I am hopeful that we have found a solution as I feel sorry for the little guy! My own teenager is lactose intolerant and now we have just figured out that our 4 year is too...he was always so gassy and we stopped milk and voila...no more gas! It just seems so hard to get parents to realize there might be an issue...they just think it's normal and no big deal...but when a child can't tell us how they feel, we don't always know if they are experiencing pain!

Sunnydays, I have a daughter who has problems with lactose and with nuts. It didn't start until she was a teenager and I thought she was becoming bulemic because in the middle of dinner she would run to the bathroom and throw up. But it must have been during all those hormonal changes in her body that she developed the food allergies. She got very stinky and bad stomach pains if she ate dairy or nuts so it was quite easy to figure it out after we started really thinking it through.

The little boy in my care will have days with the runny poops now and then when the parents or grandparents have let him have dairy. They think they are giving him a treat but really, they are causing him pain. I hope they understand that some day.

I'm lactose intolerant and have been since a pre teen so I know it doesn't feel very good. I break the rules and sometimes will have ice cream, but I pay for it later.

My little one with the poops during the naps was on special formula as a baby and always had issues with throwing up. Could be it and I've talked to mom but she doesn't seem to want to try it. Odd.... she's a great mom and they are not the type of parents to just say "oh well" Maybe I'll try switching his milk to after nap and see if naptime is a little more delightful.

He's almost at the age where I need him in the big kid nap room with the other kids, but I can't put him there if he's going to scream murder an hour in.

I have the same issue with a dck who consistently poops during nap. It usually happens between 30-60 minutes into nap and then she screams bloody murder.

I have made the crazy mistake of trying to change her and figured maybe that would put an end to this issue and I would just not engage her, change quickly and place her back in the pplaypen but she screamed even more once I did that. She thought it was time to wake up.

It is very annoying and grates on me. I think most of the other children tune it out now. They are all in separate rooms and they don't seem to wake up from it anymore even though she gets very loud.

I am not sure what to do about it. It is like clockwork. She doesn't have diarrhea or milk issues - it is a normal BM but the timing of it sticks (no pun intended). I have no idea why she can't poop during the rest of the day.

My dcg is 2 and I am scared to think what happens when she starts potty training because I know she will need to go at that time or she will use it as her way to not nap. Spixie needs her quiet/nap time to have some down time.
