If a child needs emergency care then 911 of course must be called. It will probably be better if the child was soley in the care of the paramedics during the trip to the hospital as it would be a horrific emotional time for the parent and the child would be focused on wanting parent instead of being open to the reassurance and care of the paramedics who are trained of course to deal with all ages in distress.
