    Help with nap...

Hi so I have 2 little ones (one 16 month old and almost 1yr old) they both fight their nap! They were both previously rock at home (but no longer are) they are in desperate rooms with a fan and/or white noise. They will scream all of the nap time which stops anyone from napping. The 16 month old will sleep off and on screaming in between. Any tips?? Should I be going in there? How long do I let them cry? No down time for me is stressing me out and the kids not napping isn't making them the happiest kids either!!

I had to chuckle when I saw desperate.....big clue to your state of mind Anyway, I would let them cry but I would monitor to make sure they aren't trying to escape from their beds in their angst. Poor you. I will be transitioning two new ones next month and I know I will be in your shoes soon. If only kids came with a mute button.

I let them cry it out. When they are transitionning I do the 5-10-15 method but when they are doing well during the day and only cry at nap time... I let them cry. I make sure to tell them they are OK and that ''I will see you when naptime is over' In a calm voice. I can always see them whitout them seeing me. So far it has worked well for me but I did have this little girl part-time start in January and she JUST started to nap whitout crying/screaming. Almost over 2 months of cry/scream EVERY NAP TIME but now she sleep over 2 hours almost everyday. Get yourself some headphones

I would make them stay in their beds until naptime is finished. Whether they cry the entire time or sleep, is up to them. I would check on them every so often to make sure they have not pooped, vomited, etc, but try to do it discretely so they don't know you are there. It takes time...some kids are really stubborn, but if you never give in, they will learn and you will have your quiet time back. Plus, they need the sleep just as much as you need your break...it is for their own good as well. Good luck!

LOL...I was just going to post a similar thread...I'm dealing with the same thing over here. ugh. New part time dcg. 3 days a week. She's wonderful. Except at nap time. She cries, calls out for me, will say over and over again "pee-pee" She's started to potty train (22 months) but I've called her bluff. She does not have a problem peeing in her diaper during the day. I even broke (which I never do and regret that I did) and sat her on the potty 30 min. after naptime started. Yup. She did Nada. But her diaper had a little pee in it and she was grinning like the cat that swallowed the canary.

HA..Don't think so...scooped her up, put her back in her cot with some board books and a stuffie. Ya..she didn't like that.

I do the same thing as sunnydays and crafty suggested. Eventually they get it.

Like others said, cry it out. They'll sort it out before long. I do go in, but just to lay them back down and make sure the soother isn't overboard. That's it! Some of my parents come to me now for advice on how to put kids down. I sat during my break one day texting back and forth with one mother who was trying my method. She was so upset by her crying daughter, but eventually, she went to sleep and stayed asleep for 2 hours. Sweet victory

Hey, this is my day today and yesterday with my new dc child! I pull a chair up beside the playpen and sit with them and lay them down and say nite nite over and over until they learn that there is no other option except to sleep when I put them in their bed for naptime. Yesterday I did that for an hour and a half, today for an hour, hopefully even better tomorrow. He cried the entire time too but this is my method anyway.

She has no soother and just screams the whole time. Oh boy its hard I can hear her loud and clear other little guy has no soother either but I can't hear him as much. I'm so surprised my son is sleeping through it today since its the loudest its been lol.....I feel so bad leaving her but I know she will eventually get it. Its just making my days so long especially since they are cranky from no sleep :S of course my tablet isn't working for sound and I can't listen to something else with ear phones sigh.....
