Daycare kid leaves to start school - What do you do?

I just started my daycare in January of 2010. I look after a little girl (we will call her Miss A) and a little boy plus my own two kiddos. Miss A was my first dck and she will be here for her last day this Friday. She will be starting school this fall and is going to be spending the summer with her parents. I am planning on having a farewell party for her on Friday with cupcakes, balloons, music and dancing and a gift etc.

I am just wondering what everyone does when one of their daycare kids leaves (to go off to school) ? Does anyone think of it as graduating from daycare when you start school? I want to do something fun and special for her....I am just not sure what that is. If anyone has some neat ideas I would love to hear them.

    thanks!!

A lot depends on how long the child has been with me. Since many preschools and daycare centres do something for the children that move on I started doing the same. I have a certificate from a mailbox magazine that says congratulations on completing preschool. I just run it off on their favourite colour of cardstock and put it in a page protector to send home. In the Story Time Felts that I sell there is a set that is about going to school and I usually give that to the child if it is a girl. If it is a boy I sometimes don't depending on the child. As far as a gift goes a book is never a bad choice. Not all children have a lot of books at home.

I have one leaving this Sept too. I plan just to do cupcakes and a litlle party for her and hope I don't cry too much. I will probably buy her a little present too

thanks ladies! She has been a handful at times but on the whole a sweet little thing and she was my first ever dck. I got her a cute Disney set with a bowl, cup and plate. She just loves Mickey, Minnie, Goofy and Donald and they are all on the dishes. I am also getting her favourite cheese popcorn to have as snack and I am making some cupcakes for all the kiddos to enjoy. All the kids made her a card today so we will also give her that tomorrow as well. I hope she has a great last day and a fabulous first year at school

What you chose to do is probably what I would do, or more!
I have a little guy leaving for the summer, who will be back when I am done my month off in Sept. I am thinking I will get them a card to say "have a good summer", and maybe get him a small gift. That's about it, though.
