Sending a little guy to the emergency room

today for the first time, I had to send a little guy to the emergency room.
He came in this morning and he didnt want to walk. but was in a GREAT mood. We though it might just be that his leg was tired or something.... as time went by, I figured something was wrong... we was putting more pressure on one leg when standing and after 1 hour, his hip was out of line!
I changed his diaper, and while lifting his bum to put the diaper under him, he started being very winy...

so parents came to pick him up and he's at the hospital waiting for an X ray. Poor little dude. Its hard to see them not feeling well! even if he didn't seam in alot of pain.... my pregnant women hormones are making me have watery eyes!

that stinks. I had a dcg who wouldn't walk either. All day was like this, and when she tried she was lopsided. Turned out to be an ear infection, just like I guessed. I told mom and they took her to the clinic. Maybe he got his foot stuck in a crib, its common.

Had a two year old come back after a weekend visiting with the grandparents not wanting to put weight on one of her legs. Turned out to be a "toddler stress fraacture" across her foot. They figure it was caused from jumping down off the fireplace matle at grandma's which all the cousins were doing but part way through she didnt' want to play any more and they just assumed she was tired but when the mom dropped her off in the morning said she was still acting weird to keep a watch on it. By noon it was obvious she had no intentions of walking for the day and mom took her in. Doctor started by saying oh just inflammation in hip and gave her muscle relaxer/anti-inflammatory meds. By Wed she was no better and this time mom took her to emerg and demanded an xray. Poor kid came the next day in a cast.

Wow, I wonder what was wrong then? At least we have some rainly weather to keep us inside. I'm glad it wasn't anything serious.

Scary! Glad it didn't result in anything he did at daycare or it would be much more stressful for you! Glad to hear he's okay. My son could not walk for three days last spring...his legs hurt to the point that he had to crawl to get around (he was 4 at the time). It was really scary, but two doctor's both said it was just shin splints (he is pretty active and loves jumping off of things). Maybe it is something like this?

How frightening for you. I'm glad the parents arrived right away and took your concerns seriously.

hope he feels better soon! I know to some it sounds odd but it really isn't. I had this happen to my daughter just befroe she turned 2. She was walking down the stairs... on the last step she didnt think there was a step so it surprised her when she went down far.. if you KWIM.. anyways the impact of misjudging the step hurt her. It was nothing major... i didnt even think she was hurt. but then she wouldn walk... then i got freaked out.. many xrays later and a trip to the orthopedic specialist and nothing ever showed. The specialist told us that sometimes kids do that... somethign scares them (pain) and it takes them awhile to get back at it.. we let it go for a week.. she crawled around on her second birthday party!! then i started tricking her... i remember my mom was leaving and i told her to come wave.. she was so excited she forgot about her leg.. pulled herself up to the window sill.. i didnt say anything.. then i quietly mentioned look your standing you can do it!!! then she realized she could walk and it was ok and that was it!! DRAMA!!! LOL i regret all the xrays but what are you going to do... it scares you. kidscan be like that! it was almost exactly 2 weeks before she walked!!! now that she is 7 i understand since she is my little drama queen
