    Am I over reacting?

I have a dcg is 5 and very independant. She started a couple of months ago and last week at drop off Mom says, " this is the first day she has ever worn underwear!" Not as in she is finally toilet trained, but as in she has been coming with just pants on and not underwear. I am quite upset that this was not brought up earlier, as I think underwear is quite important. I explained that she must be wearing underwear here and definitely when she goes to school.

I she wore underwear for the rest of the week and Tuesday she came with no underwear on and her pants kept sliding down and showing her rear end. We went through her bag, but no extra pairs. I again explained that she needs underwear on when she is here, Mom said she the dcg promised to wear it the following day.

Yesterday her brother was sick so they did not come. Today, no underwear. They did not say anything, just waited for me to notice. Luckily there was a pair in her bag.

Am I the only on who finds this gross and part of being ready for the day? Or am I just overreacting and being a prude?

I wonder if the girl is so independant she dresses herself and mom doesn't always know if she's wearing of not.

Mom probably doesn't see it as a big issue. But, your house, your rules. If you require underwear then she must wear it.

I find it more concerning that she doesn't have a full change of clothes in her bag in case of accidents.

I don't think you're over reacting. I think I'd be in shock if I had a child not wear underwear. It's like teaching them to not dress them selves properly.

    So strange!

I'm laughing as I'm reading this. My son loves going without underwear. But, we've explained to him it's only acceptable at home, and only when it's only us. He understands that it's a time and place kind of thing.

Why are you worried whether or not she wears underwear? All of my kids went through a phase of wearing no undies, and as a TMI, I don't wear them myself! LOL

Wearing underwear and having them covered is a school rule - rather than making kids adjust to school rules it is easier to make them do it from the beginning so it stays consistent. By covered I mean if they wear a dress they must have shorts on over the underwear. Butt crack can't show so either have pants that stay up or wear a top that is long enough to cover when you bend over.

I agree that it is disgusting, and I would remind the Mom that proper hygiene requires that one wear underwear.

Some people don't wear underwear and I see nothing wrong with it, depending on what the child is wearing. To each his/her own and you have to enforce the rules within your house, but to me, underwear is a personal choice.....and no, it's not gross to not wear them. It's just not a big deal, in my mind. Of course, if the girl's in a tiny skirt, underwear is def in order. Other than that, I wouldn't sweat it.

I have to say, I'm with Alpha and Cfred on this one. I really don't see what is "gross" or "disgusting" about a child not wearing underwear as long as they have pants on. I certainly wouldn't allow a child to come ina dress or skirt with nothing underneath and if pants are falling off and her bottom is sticking out, then I would ask for either underwear or pants that stay on (like leggings) so that she is not sitting on things with a bare bottom. Otherwise, I really don't know why it would be an issue.
