I could have sued her for sure. I have written proof in the form of emails and text messages that she is a liar. She's SO lucky I have decided that she's not worth it, because from what I have heard from a lawyer friend, she could owe me thousands of dollars because what she's done is "libel", and very much against the law.

I have to be honest and say that it was REALLY difficult for me to refrain from emailing or calling her to tell her all of that. A big part of me wants her to sweat, thinking that her horrendous actions actually have negative consequences for her. She also has another court case pending where she is trying to sue for damages from a crash, and her credibility is being called into question. It would look SO bad for her if I took her to court for libel. It would virtually destroy her other case. I won't do this, but do you know how hard it is to keep from telling her how lucky she is?

I am still pretty upset, as you can see. :s

I have a friend who works for a lawyer and if I were in your shoes I would be asking my friend to write a letter for me on the lawyer's letterhead warning the woman about slander and libel, just to scare the bejeebus out of her and hopefully smarten her up. Do you have a connection at a law office?

I think a letter of such nature only costs about 100.00 I would part with that amount if it were me!

That is a great idea Momof4. I would do that if I ever find myself in that situation... It is very unfair when parents do that. They can destroy reputations and businesses, and our source of income, of course. People should be more responsible and learn to watch what they say or do... others could have irreparable damages just because someone thinks that is very easy to tell lies and get away with it.

Yep, I agree. I had a similar situation recently and I am currently in the process of suing a dcparent. Parents do not get to go out in the world and say untrue things about our daycares and get away with it.

She was angry about my not returning her deposit, so she posted in a public forum that I didn't take the kids outside all winter (I have an email from her in January where she thanks me for taking the kids outside so much), that I didn't warn her about her son's behaviour (I have dozens of texts that prove otherwise), that I refused her receipts (I issue them yearly and she has hers), and that I was overwhelmed with too many kids, claiming that I had four children under 18 months (complete lie). It was embarassing as heck. My current clients saw it, too, and they knew right away that she was full of it.

She clearly could have cost me my business. I live in a small town.
