Starting to feel at home...
Children Ratios?
So I was wondering about everyone's daycares and how many kids you have and what their ages are? And I would also know about children ratios I know that in Alberta a unlicensed can have 6 plus their own.
Is it okie to ever go over that number, I'm not talking about adding younger children but older children, say 3,4,5 year olds. How about in the summer?

In Ontario you are allowed a max of 5 children under 10 at any time.... My dcks are 3.5, 2.5, 2, 18 months and 15 months

I'm in Ontario and have 7 kids (various on pt schedules so never more than 5 at one time). The ages are 6 mos, 15 mos, 16 mos, 2 @ 18 mos, 2 @ 23 mos. No, you can never go over that number with children under the age of 10 yrs. Once they hit 10 yrs, they no longer contribute to your head count. Other than that, it's illegal and your insurance won't cover you.

Euphoric !
I have a 4 yo full time, her 9 yo brother b/a school, a 21 mo full time, and a 21 mo MWF. I am about to sign (I think) a 2.5 yo too, and I will be full. Come September, I have a 16 mo starting full time, and my 9 yo dcb will be ten in August, so it all works out perfectly!
So, starting next week, I will have alternating 3/4 kids here during the day, and in September, I will have the same, as the 4 yo will be starting all day JK. I am so excited, and I haven't been this happy with my group (ages, personalities, etc) in a very long time.

Manitoba
Wow, Manitoba is way more strict. If unlicensed you can only have a max of 4 under 12 years old, including your own kids. I got a family child care license so that I can have 6 children, plus my own two - for a max of eight kids. And then I'm only allowed no more than 5 kids under 6 years old, of which no more than 3 can be under 2 years old.
I will have once everyone has started (including my own two kids) - one 14 month old, one 12 month old and three 3 year olds. I haven't signed up any school age kids yet, but they would fill the other 3 spots I'm allowed if I chose to do so.
I asked my child care coordinator what happens when unlicensed homes go over their allowed numbers and she said they would be given a fine, though they have to be caught in the act. And also, if your insurance provider found out they would cancel your home insurance.

Here in Ontario, you aren't able to get licensed if you're independent of an agency. I don't see what you mean about Manitoba being more strict - you're allowed more kids than we are here. If I could get licensed I totally would, but I'm not going to give a cut of my pay to THE MAN. hehe.

In Ontario, it is 5 plus your own, for any age....correct?!
I was sure I read that before I opened!!
I have my own two children (1 and 2.5) and then a 12 month, 14 month, and 2 two year olds. This is my regular crew, once a week I have an 8 year old boy with Autism and a 3 year old with CP. All of their schedules are different but my 12 month old and 14 month old are full time and the other kids share the spots. I usually have 6 total, including my own, everyday. I wish I didn't take on so many babies, 2 would be nice...but it is what it is!!

If you are not with an agency then yes it is 5 daycare children plus your own and you can have as many kids on your lists as long as only 5 of them are there at any given time. And there are no restrictions for the age mix.

Yep. I have three of my own. They don't count. Even if they did, two are over 10.

Unless I misunderstood, I don't get what you mean. Manitoba only allows at total of 4 kids including your own if you are unlicensed, where others are saying Ontario allows 5 kids plus your own.
